My Blogging MeMe

I have been tagged by a sweet lady, by the name of Jody, over at The Hunter’s Wife to do a meme on what got me interested in blogging and how it has evolved since I got started.

Next month will be a year since I actually started blogging. My next door neighbor had a blog and I would read hers on a day-to-day basis. I decided one day that I will try this blogging thing out. I already had a website called, A Dixie Lady Deer Hunter, that I have updated from time to time by a computer tech here in town and a MySpace. I decided to register for one and after a month, I just lost interest in it. Then one day back in January of this year, a really nice guy came to my website and signed my guestbook and encouraged me to write and he soon became my mentor. You all know him by the name of Rex over at Deer Camp Blog. He has given me a lot of confidence in myself and has become a very good friend to my husband and I. We have been to his famous Christmas Place Plantation & Hunting Camp several times which is located in the MS Delta. You could not asked for nicer folks to know. They make you feel at home and we look forward to hunting with them some this deer season.

How has this evolved? I have been honored to be one of seven of the founding members of the Outdoors Bloggers Summit, including Rex, and have had the opportunity to share this with Kristine, Othmar, Jon, Matt and Kevin. I am anxiously looking forward to meeting them one day.

I have also been retired for 12 years with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and you would think that I would have all the time in the world, but a week before I retired my husband had a stroke. I have basically taken over the household duties and caring for him. I do try to spend at least an hour or so on my blog each day researching, posting and/or commenting on other blogs. I may have to stop and start off and on during the day, but somehow I manage to get it done. It has become a part of my daily life style and I look forward to making new blogging friends here on Blogger!

I will now tag four of my blog friends for a meme that I enjoy reading!

Bolt Mountain (Denny)
Andy and Julie Outdoors (Andy & Julie)
Then There was Sweetthing (Nickel)
Camp Chicken Chronicles (Cathy)

Isn't your year anniversary fun! It seemed like it just flew by for me, and then I looked back and couldn't believe all I'd written in a year.

It's always nice to know how things started. Good post.

Marion,
Thanks for visiting my blog and for passing it on to your friends. I started it for my brother, sister-in-law, and nephew who live far away in Spokane WA and for my best friend Arlene's grandson, Clifton who is serving with a Special Forces unit in Iraq for his fourth tour there. I wanted to give him and my family something fun to read about and to keep them in touch with goings on at Camp Chicken. I am enjoying blogging much more than I thought I would and would like to thank my sister-in-law Judy for all of her guidance in getting me started.

I am also wishing you a big get well as I hear you had surgery recently.

Cathy - Glad I could pass your blog along to my friends. You are doing a great job. Thank you for the well wishes. I'm on the mend, slowly but surely!
