A Dixie Lady Deer Hunter

Article by Fred Messina, editor of "On Target Outdoors" from The Vicksburg Evening Post on Friday, January 19, 1990. Photo by Bob Phillips.

Bob Phillips came up the other day with a photo of his wife Marian and a deer she got on Brown's Point New Years Eve. The deer was an 8-point with 16 inches of inside spread that weighed in at 190 pounds. A nice trophy in anyone's book. However, the tale Bob told is that this was Marian's fourth deer this year and he claimed that he would have done better than he did if he had not spent so much time hauling Marian's deer out of the woods. Come off it, Bob. We all know who the hunter was.

A Bird and A Pig

Doyle Martin said this bird flew into a door, knocked itself out, awoke and then flew to its perch on an angel's wing.

Brenda Lynn put bird seed out on her patio in the southern part of Warren County in hopes of attracting a raccoon, or as least some birds.  Instead, a pig bellied up, and she doesn't know where it belonged.

These two pictures above were taken from our classified section of The Vicksburg Post this past Sunday.  I thought they were a 'little different.'  Photos can be submitted by readers of the Post for publication in giving your best shot!  I am happy to say that I have had a few published myself.  The photos have to be current and of interest to the public, either because of their subject matter or their oddity, or the photographic skill shown.  Enjoy!

What is the bird? A bunting or finch of some sort?

Not sure what kind of bird it is Ian...

Maybe someone out there in blogger land will know.

If I may...I believe the bird in the picture could possibly be a Blue Grosbeak.
