A Dixie Lady Deer Hunter

Article by Fred Messina, editor of "On Target Outdoors" from The Vicksburg Evening Post on Friday, January 19, 1990. Photo by Bob Phillips.

Bob Phillips came up the other day with a photo of his wife Marian and a deer she got on Brown's Point New Years Eve. The deer was an 8-point with 16 inches of inside spread that weighed in at 190 pounds. A nice trophy in anyone's book. However, the tale Bob told is that this was Marian's fourth deer this year and he claimed that he would have done better than he did if he had not spent so much time hauling Marian's deer out of the woods. Come off it, Bob. We all know who the hunter was.

Salute to Skylar!

Our MS Idol was voted off last night but this is only the beginning for Skylar and she is an absolute pro already.  I heard on Miss 103 this morning while talking to her Mother that she will be on the Jay Leno Show tonight.  Next week, The Today Show, Ellen and Live with Kelly Shows.  She has gotten a lot of exposure on American Idol which has now launched her career.  My best wishes go out to Skylar!  You have made Mississippi so proud!

I was a little surprised she didn't have the bigger fan base. No matter. She will get a contract.

By teh way, did ou ever know Ed and Margie Bearss? They were the parents of my friend Sara. they Vicksburg many, many years ago, however. He is a huge historian with the Natioanl Park Service or was. He is likely retired but still giing battlefield tours.

Yes, she will. I did answer you back on the link of MS Idol.

Now that you put two ss on Bearss, I do remember that name but not personally. I have a link here that you can go to. Looks like he is still doing it. http://www.civilwartours.org/

Have a great weekend! :)
