Mr. Nuts In Hog Heaven!

The spotlight on Mr. Nuts!

My Facebook hog killing friend, Kareen Beinhauer, of Alpine, Texas, finally got the nasty old hog she named, Mr. Nuts.  Here is the story in her own words of how she finally got him last night!

I am back in from sitting out. Before I got to the feeder in the Kawasaki, I looked to my right and there were some sows and young ones. I went on to the feeder and put one on top but they ran off up the hill which I decided was better because I did not want any other hogs to hear the gunshot. Javelin's were there and hungry and they finally looked up and ran off. I put my ear plugs in and took the safety off because the way they ran off I knew hogs were coming in. Sure enough, Mr. Nuts. He spooked a little but finally settled down to eat and I thought, screw a lung shot, I am taking a head shot as I had made sure my red dot was spot on. Dropped him in his tracks but I noticed his eyes were still blinking so I kept shooting him until I was absolutely sure he was dead!!! OMG!! What a hog!! I have been hunting him for at least two years and I can't believe he came in tonight!! Will post pictures next and for sure will take a picture of him hanging from the backhoe and hopefully get him weighed. RIP Mr. Nuts, you were a worthy opponent. Whoever says still hunting is boring is nuts, pardon the pun! LOL

Mr. Nuts weighed in at 250 lbs.

Way to go Kareen!  So freaking proud of you!

My congrats to my hunting friend in our great wild outdoors!

Mr. Nuts tusks!

Eating High On The Hog!

My Facebook friend, Terry Patterson, recently had a good friend to go and hunt down this hog that had been eating his corn on his property for two years but never in the day, only at night.

He found out the next day that it weighed 500 pounds by weighing it on truck scales.  His friend did a head shot on him and dropped him in his tracks.  That will must definitely work since I have done the same killing a 180 lb. sow with a head shot and reloading and shot another smaller pig running away.

I'm so glad that his good friend got this big old fat pig in our great wild outdoors.  It was eating high on the hog for sure!

Big Old Bobcat!

Donna Rice of Magee, MS, said that her husband killed this large bobcat recently because it was trying to get into her chicken pen.

Her husband called the Game Warden to come and look at it because of it's size.

Not sure what the outcome was but it sure is a big old bobcat in our great wild outdoors.

America Came To Town Today!

Children playing in the splash fountain at Catfish Row Children's Art Park!

You can barely see the America paddle wheeler in between the trees moored in the Yazoo Diversion Canal at Vicksburg, MS.

America came to town today bringing her passengers to tour our historic civil war town of Vicksburg, MS.  It is the eighth ship and the second brand-new vessel to be launched this year.  It is one of the finest Mississippi paddle wheeler ever built while introducing features never before seen on a Mississippi riverboat.  It also provides panoramic views of the passing scenery and holds only 185 guests so you can quickly make new friends.

Close-up picture of the America paddle wheeler.

This is as far north as she will cruise and will head southbound to New Orleans.

Monster Velvet Buck Named, Bosa!

My Facebook friend, Mike Johnson, took this amazing footage of a buck that I wanted to share with you today.

"He knew I was there and I finally started talking to him to try and calm him down a bit," he said.

At one point he thought the deer was going to kick him out of the woods!  You can see by the video that Mike was getting the stare-down.  Thanks Mike for sharing your video in our great wild outdoors!

Published on Jul 6, 2016
Here's a look at the buck I nicknamed Bosa in 2015 and now in 2016!  It was awesome finding him again this year and seeing how much bigger he is! His right side shed that I found, back in February, was officially measured at 88 & 3/8" of antler! It was well after sunset so video light wasn't great and he was well aware I was there because of the focus light on one of my cameras and the click noise on another but he walked up to within 30 yards of me! There's bonus footage I shot with my other Sony camera, at the end. I was shooting double video for a bit! Got lots of great pictures to!

Buttons

In Cle Elum, Washington an affectionate elk paid some state firefighters a visit over the holiday weekend as they worked to tame a wildfire.

The orphaned elk, dubbed Buttons by the locals, is a fixture in Kittitas County, where she took up residence with some cows and goats on a hillside.

Kittitas County Fire District spokeswoman Richelle Risdon says she arrived at the scene on Saturday to see the elk nuzzling up to everyone in the command post area and resting her head on people's shoulders.

Risdon snapped photos of the animal getting up close and personal with the crew and posted them on the fire district's Facebook page.

She says she hopes with all the attention the photos are getting online...

...hunters will know to steer clear of Buttons...
