First Deer!

How cute it this?  Jordan Ballman, of Wiggins, MS, took his 7-year old daughter hunting the other evening and look what she got...her very first deer on a hot day in Mississippi.  As you can see camo and boots were optional!  I know he is one proud Dad!

Congratulations to this sweet little young hunter in our great wild and wonderful Mississippi outdoors!  Check out that smile!  Way to go little one!

Copiah County 12-Pointer

Noel Cain was hunting in Copiah County when he shot his .45-70 and killed a 12-point buck.  He searched the blood trail for an hour with no luck and walked back to his house for help.  He took his four wheeler and his 10 month old German Sheppard, not thinking she would help.  She picked up the blood trail that he lost and went straight to him!  He loves his dog and will need to give her extra milk bones, maybe a steak or a deer leg!  Congratulations to Noel on a very fine buck in our great wild Mississippi outdoors!

Madison's First Deer

Jerry A. Wade of Jones County posted this picture yesterday of his 9 year old daughter, Madison, getting this nice buck.  He said this was the second time for her to hunt and dropped him with one shot.  She used a CVA .35 Remington rifle, helped skin it out and requested a European mount!

Jerry said that you just can't compare anything to these moments and he was so very proud of her.  I'm proud of Madison as well and sending my congratulations to another young deer hunter in our great wild Mississippi outdoors!

Jones County Buck

Jerry A. Wade of Laurel, MS, said this was the best deer he ever got in Jones County, MS.

It was a lucky day with a 175 yard shot and sat back patted himself on the back. Picked up his binoculars and to his surprise he was still standing, turning his head looking around!  He grabbed his gun back up and gave him another shot and didn't miss that time.  He said the hunting angels smiled down on him!

There was a smaller racked buck and doe to his left and guessed he was watching them.  He had seen this particular buck before and had a couple pictures on his trail cam.  It was chasing does everywhere that evening and got him off of Hwy 11 North of Laurel in a big hayfield.

My congrats to Jerry on a very nice buck in our great wild and wonderful Mississippi outdoors!

Lucas First Deer!

Bernabe Molina of Hattiesburg, MS is so thankful to the Good Lord for letting his 5 year old son Lucas harvest his deer.  He said after 4 months of on/off hunting with him, his little man was starting to get disappointed but he told him to have patience. Tonight, it finally paid off with his first deer, a spike!  He said he wished we could have seen him shaking and could see his heart beating through his shirt!  Some awesome memories were made tonight and hoping to make plenty more!

My congrats to little Lucas in our great wild and wonderful Mississippi outdoors!  Way to go little guy!  So proud of you!

Hunting Buddies @ Famous Christmas Place Hunting Club

Stewart Allen, Mark, Rex Howell, Burney Howell, myself and Paul Howell.  Michael Howell took our picture and missing was Tent Howell who left earlier because our Sunday morning hunt was rained out.

I had two great hunts even though Rex tried so hard to call up a big buck or a doe for me to shoot.  Our first hunt was not far from the Sneaky Stand at a creek bed that was overflowing from a early stormy Saturday morning. It was so nice and peaceful with the flowing waters..

Saturday afternoon hunt was near the Beehive Stand at the lake...

...but again no luck and Rex had used his new caller on both hunts.

Last weekend Rex called up a very nice 180 lb. buck with his new grunt caller that he got for Christmas using his .270 in uncharted waters.

Mark got a 138lb. doe Friday evening and was the only deer killed.  It was nice of him to offer me a hind quarter to bring home from his deer.  It was much appreciated  Congratulations Mark!

Nothing like a camp fire after a successful hunt from Mark!

A special thanks to my hunting and blogging friend, Rex of Deer Camp Blog, for inviting me up to hunt at the famous Christmas Place Plantation and Hunting Club on the edge of the MS Delta.  It is a great place to hunt and once again to see my hunting buddies and spend good times together while making memories that will last a lifetime.

While on my way home I usually stop by the Yazoo Interchange to take pictures of the swamp.  Since it was still raining, I just stayed in my truck, zoomed in and got some pix.

Hunting This Weekend!

I was invited by my mentor/blogging friend, Rex Howell, to spend the weekend to hunt at their famous Christmas Place Plantation and Hunting Club on the edge of the Delta.  The picture above was taken while hog hunting 7 or 8 years ago and you can barely see a deer (tripod) stand that I have hunted from.  Looking forward to seeing my hunting buddies again and being in the great wild outdoors of Mississippi!

Featured By The Mississippi Club

I was interviewed back in November by my Facebook friend, Rosalin Moss, a freelance writer/photographer for The Mississippi Club which is dedicated to raising awareness about the beautiful people, places and events in Mississippi, and encouraging tourism in Mississippi.

On January 15, 2017 she posted the story about me as a lady hunter.  I want to share with you today  how it all began for me as a hunter.  I hope to inspire and encourage other women to take up the sport of hunting in our great wild and wonderful outdoors!

Road Trip To Natchez National Cemetery (2)

Robert "Bobby" L. Armstrong, Jr.
Bobby was born in California and served on the police force there for twenty years and had three children.  May He Rest In Peace!

My friend, Johnette, paying her respects to her late husband.

We went across Cemetery Road to another part of the Natchez National Cemetery to take more pictures.

You can see the Mississippi River from here.

Beautiful shaped tree with moss!

On our way out buzzards were trying to eat a road kill on Cemetery Road and I took this picture of them waiting in a tree.

Road Trip To Natchez National Cemetery (1)

Last Saturday my friend, Johnette and I took a road trip to Natchez, MS.  The trip was to visit her husbands grave who died two years ago and was buried in the Natchez National Cemetery.  On our way down 61 South we past by some strange looking buildings like the one above.  Not sure what it is but looks like a silo.

Close-up view with a doorway!

Above is the Old Country Store in Lorman, MS.  I have been in this store several times going to Natchez through the years.

It's a country store/restaurant now serving "soul food" with a lunch buffet featuring heavenly fried chicken!

We took a two mile side trip down Red Lick Road to Rosswood Cotton Plantation Mansion which is a Mississippi Landmark circulated 1857 and checking it out one day.

Tour hours!

Rosswood was shelled during the Civil War, used as a hospital for both sides, and now had been restored and furnished.  You can view real plantation diaries and documents, tour the mansion and slave quarters and sleep in history.  We are looking forward to touring it.   To be continued...

First Time Hunter Hooked!

Jason Nicholas' son got his very first deer yester-day morning.  He spotted the deer and shot him like a seasoned pro, he said.  The best part was that after he shot, he got a bad case of the Elvis Presley legs and couldn't even stand up.  How I know that feeling!  He is now hooked for life and another hunter is born.  Check out that smile on his face and his shot placement!  Priceless!  Congratulations to this young hunter in our great wild and wonderful Mississippi outdoors.
