Hunting With My Daughter, Kathy

On Sunday, November 26, I took my daughter Kathy hunting with me. We got to the camp "Jasper Bottom" about 11:15, signed in and the hunters that were there were getting ready to do a a drive....so I took Kathy to A3 in a box stand about 2 feet off the ground. It was a great spot to hunt. There had been some logging in that area about two years ago...never been back in there. Was able to use Allen's 4-wheeler to take Kathy in. I went back to the camp and Allen drove me to my stand on the main road which is A-1. We did not see a thing....after the drive the guys left. I called Kathy on my cell phone to see if she wanted to go to a field stand and she did. Got off my stand and walked back to the camp to get the 4-wheeler. Got Kathy and before we left, I took some pictures. I will try to load them on here soon...I drove Kathy to F-1 to hunt and I went up from her to F-6....sat there for two and half hours and neither one of us saw anything. We did have a good time tho. I enjoy being in the woods and so does she. It was quality time with my daughter who will turn 41 in January. We made a lot of memories...hopefully, next time we will get a deer!

Doe In A Haystack!

This is Bob with his doe that I found and pulled out of the woods last deer season at Homewood Hunting Club in Claiborne County!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bob shot this doe in the late evening and we went back the next day to Mike's Patch to look for it. It was like looking for a needle in a haystack...no blood anywhere. Bob went to the right into the woods and I went to the left. Walked in about 100 yards and saw something that looked like a deer lying by a log across a ravine. I was able to walk around to it and when I got closer, it looked real small and then I started dragging this deer out of the woods...the more I dragged the heavier it got and the bigger it got! Told Bob I found it and he helped me get it over a tree that have fallen down and it took us three tries but we got it up on the 4-wheeler. Got back to the camp and weighed it and it was almost 120 lbs. Yikes!! You should have seen us trying to load it into our 2005 Ford Focus car....it was fun. Bob harvested two deer and got another that got eaten up by a coyote. My hunting was not good this past season. Two deer (at separate hunts) showed up as I was going to the potty and another one I shot at the Cedar Tree Stand. Got down and found blood and tagged where it went into the woods. Had to pick up Bob at another stand on the four-wheeler and was getting late so we decided to wait till the next morning and go back early. On the way back to the camp I grab a grandson to help me track my deer. We found my deer and it had been eaten on possibly by the same coyote since the two stands are close together even though you have to go back towards the camp and then to Mike's Patch to get to Bob's stand.
Opening Day (First Post)
Opening Day - November 18, 2006 - Got to the camp about 1:45 and signed in. Saw Allen and he told me about the changes in the deer stands...so my stand will be called A-1...so now we have A1, A2, A3 and A4...then F1, F2, F3, F4, F5 and F6...I asked Allen if my daughter Kathy could come Sunday to hunt...but since it was opening weekend, she could not. One of the rules! There will be no guest on opening weekend. So, I got my .270 rifle and walked to my stand beside the road. Sat there till 5:30 and did not see a deer at all. Saw a squirrel jumping from one tree to the next, a small plane went overhead. A lot of barking squirrels and that was it. A young hunter came in and stop to asked me had I seen anything and that he was sorry that he interrupted my hunt. That is to be expected since my stand is on the main road. Hopefully, will try again tomorrow. Thinking about getting on A2. This stand was moved and I think I can walk to it. Two of the hunters got a deer this morning. Had to call Kathy and give her the bad news. She was so looking forward to hunting with me tomorrow. Hopefully, she will get to come with me next weekend.
