A Very Old Deer Stand
Check out this very old deer stand. Have you ever climbed up in one similar to this?
Where my husband and I hunted was on Anderson-Tully land it was under a wildlife management program and you could not put nails in the trees. I have hunted out of box stands, tripods, lean-up stands with a chain around a tree to lock-in-place and some stands tied down with rope. Now they make all kinds of stands on the ground and one recently at a sports center that looked like a real tree stump! We also have a one-man stand but not particular fond of hunting out of it.
What kind of deer stand do you hunt out of?

My Deer Hunting Frame
I really like this deer frame that was given to me by my secret sister in my sorority (Pi Alpha Kappa, Omega Chapter) a few years ago. I put the picture of my third 8 point that I harvested back on December 27, 2002 at Homewood Hunting Club in Claiborne County, MS. They can make the cutest frames these day and I have a huge collection of them. You should see my bar because it is so full of pictures of family and friends that you cannot not sit at it anymore. I cleared off all the pictures yesterday to get ready for our Thanksgiving Dinner to put all our food on. The turkey of course will be in the center of the dinning room table. Wishing all my blogging friends a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

Deer Season In Mississippi
It's too bad that I have been shot out this deer season for the first time in 28 years. I simply love the sport! I enjoy getting out in nature and watching the deer and whatever else crosses my path...a bobcat one time. You may see deer and you may not - but just being in the woods is enough for me. I love shooting them with my camera as well. Hopefully, soon I can get in the woods and get behind a ground blind and take some pictures.
It will take me awhile to recover from my rt. rotator cuff surgery and knowing that my daughter, Kathy, is in our great outdoors hunting today brings me great joy. I have four daughters and I'm so glad that one of them wanted to take up the sport. She has already harvested several deer and she said...since Mama can't get to the woods and get the meat, I will. Wishing her GOODHUNTING!

Pole Moose
Columbia Falls, Montana -- North Western Energy crews were laying new power cables which were strung on the ground for miles. The moose are rutting right now and very agitated. He was thrashing around and got his antlers stuck in the cables. When the men (miles away) began pulling the lines up with their big equipment, the moose went up with them. They noticed excess tension in the lines and went searching for the problem. He was still alive when they lowered him to the ground. He was a huge 60-inch bull and slightly teed off! Only in Montana!

Elk Freed From Soccer Net
Officer Bruce Richards of the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife works to release a young elk caught in a soccer net at Rock Creek Elementary School in Maple Valley, about 20 miles southeast of Seattle. Fortunately, both the officer and the elk appear to be working toward the same goal. This video was taken on November 15, 2013, by an officer from the King County Sheriff's office, which also responded to the call.

Five Exotic Places To Hunt
I was contacted recently by Kate Schumer who is the Content Coordinator at Priority One Jets. She asked me if I would like to post their article on exotic hunting and was very happy to obliged. Anything pertaining to hunting is what my blog is all about!
I was also asked to tell about my wildest hunt and that would be a hog hunt at the famous Christmas Place Plantation and Hunting Club on the edge of the MS Delta. My husband and I were invited guest and while in a stand together a big black hog came running past us. I could not scoped it but my husband, being an Army expert marksman, shot but sadly missed. He had another opportunity later in the year and got a really nice hog. A hog is still on my bucket list but recovering from rt. rotator cuff surgery so I will have to wait another year. I know I have a hog with my name on it in our great wild outdoors!
Below are five exotic places to hunt around the world and maybe if you have the means you may want to check them out.
Originally used as a means of survival, hunting has evolved into a favorite pastime for many. From traditional methods to modern tricks, hunters today have found new ways of capturing prey. If you are looking for a new locations with bigger and better game, consider traveling to one of these exotic locations for the excursion of a lifetime.
Immenhof Hunting (Africa) - Whether your preference is a bow or a rifle, this hunting farm sits on 20,000 acres of private land and boasts a variety of game. From baboons to cheetahs, hunters can pursue prey of all shapes and sizes for their trophy wall. Experienced guides knowledgeable in multiple languages are available for one-on-one or small group sessions. If your traveling companion isn't much of a hunter, the farm also provides non-hunting activities, such as horseback riding, farm tours, and nature walks.
Available game consists of: Baboon, Giraffe, Impala, Leopard, Oryx, Ostrich, Warthog, Wildebeest, Zebra, and more.
Balam Mexico Jungle Hunt (Mexico) - Located in one of the largest jungle masses in the world, hunters will be thrown into the full nature experience. The camp is surrounded by a 200,000 acre hunting playground packed with numerous four legged creatures such as deer, pecari, and forest cougars. The season lasts from mid March to late Ma, with temperatures reaching up to a scorching 90 degrees. Guns and ammo are available for rent depending on the selected package.
Available game consists of: Forest Cougar, Ocellated Turkey, White Tail Deer, Collared Pecari, Scaled Pigeon, and more.
High Mountain Hunts (Iceland) - If your're looking for a change of scenery and a drastic drop in temperature, bundle up and trek to Iceland. Partner up with a group of 20-30 hunters (depending on your package) to track reindeer, geese, and puffin. With packages catering to individuals and larger groups, hunters can enjoy their trip with any company they choose. Depending on the type of hunt your're after, High Mountain Hunts also has destinations in Argentina, Brazil and Russia.
Available game consists of: Reindeer, Geese, Ptarmigan, Puffin, Guillemot, and Razorbills.
Opatcho Lake Guide Outfitters (British Columbia) - Sitting on the shores of the sparking Opatcho Lake, this camp specializes in big game hunt adventures. With a lake full of rainbow trout and a surrounding forest where grizzly bears creep behind every corner, hunters are counseled by trained guide outfitters every step of the way. Hunters can appreciate the ambiance of the rugged outdoors while still enjoying home cooked meals, hot showers, and even a sauna!
Available game consists of: Black Bear, Canadian Moose, Mule Deer, Whitetail Deer, Cougar, and Lynx.
Outdoors International (Mozambique) - For those seeking something a little more exclusive, this hunt is considered a unique add-on to the classic African safari adventure. Start the hunt in a 4x4 vehicle and continue tracking on foot through shallow areas and banks. Between the size of the hippo and the speed of the crocodile, this combination is a fun yet challenging twist on the typical safari. Although April through October is the prime season for this duo, hippo and crocodile hunting is available all year round.
Available game consists of: Hippos, Crocodiles, Elephant, Cape Buffalo, and Leopard.

The authorities were able to capture and administered a tranquilizer to operate successfully.
The deer which is 5 months old was spotted on 1 November in the garden of a resident of Rockaway, Susan Darrah, who then alerted wildlife officials.
Mrs. Darrah told the newspaper, after being treated, the deer had been released into the wild, but had started to take a nap in a field before heading into the woods.

In Memory of Brad Cummins
I got word yesterday that my hunting friend, Brad Cummins, had died suddenly from complications of two surgeries. I was in deep shock. Last week, before he had to go back in the hospital again following surgery, we had been talking over the phone and had planned a hunt to his camp...just to be in the woods. I got sick and so did he and it was postponed. Now, we will never hunt together again.
Above and below are pictures of him that I took back on March 31, 2010, when we went to my deer camp, Jasper Bottom Hunting Club in Claiborne County, MS, for a turkey hunt. He was an avid turkey hunter and deer hunter.
October 6, 1953 ~ November 5, 2013
My husband and I met Brad and his former wife, Karen, about 20 years ago and he would go hunting with us on several occasions at two camps we belonged to. On one particular hunt, my husband, Bob and Brad were alone at Jasper Bottom to deer hunt. They hunted pretty close to one another and Brad heard a horrible noise in the woods and knew something was terribly wrong. By the time Brad got down from his tree and walked over to where Bob was...Bob was standing there in a daze. What happen was that Bob's well runner broke on his Big Man Stand and Bob did a flip and was slammed up against the tree and knocked out a tooth and fractured his first and second rib and wrenched his back...it was a good thing Bob had his safety belt which saved his life. Bob said he did not remember how he got down but thank goodness Brad was there to help and to drive them back home.
Brad was on disability but was still able to work a part time job at a sports center and had even gone back to work and got sick again. His job was to order uniforms, etc., for all school sporting events and never met a stranger. He was very personable and friendly. He will be sadly missed by my husband and I and his only daughter, Alice, his Mother, Sister and all the friends he made through the years working in the retail business. Rest in peace my friend!

Love/Hate Cam
This is a cam shot of a very nice buck near an empty deer stand. The very nice buck is looking at a doe in the woods. To the right corner is a water well with a stick in it for critters to be able to climb out. I made this my wallpaper. Wish I was sitting on that deer stand at that precise moment, don't you? Hope everyone is having a good hunting season!
