Turkey Whisperer

My Facebook friend, Mike Persichini is not only a deer whisperer but becoming a turkey whisperer as well.

He's was checking on his turkey buddy again in front of a building yesterday morning basking in the sun.  He also took him some corn.

He cannot figure out why he stays where he has been in the same spot for over a month now with no other birds around.

It could be that he's hiding from the hunters in the woods and he's got plenty of turkey smarts!

He really is a beautiful bird and I think he knows it!

A Peeping Tom?

My Facebook friend, Mike Persichini, posted these pictures yesterday of this big tom that flies down from his roost every day and goes in front of this building to warm up in the morning sun. Mike said he also likes to stare and talk to himself in the reflection in the windows. He is the only turkey around this building and kind of strange.  Wowza!  What a gorgeous bird!  Thanks for sharing with us, Mike!

Butt shot!

Sunshot - Love this picture.

Mike said that this is the same tom that had ice all over him a week ago at the same building.  I posted about this turkey on April 17th called, Frozen Tail Feathers!

WOW!!! ~ Zoee's Big Birds!

Brad Snow of Killbuck, OH is bragging about his daughter, Zoee, in getting a fine turkey recently and it's her 7th bird.

Zoee is one lucky daughter to be able to hunt with her Dad in the great wild outdoors.

My congratulations to Zoee!

His daughter was blessed this week of youth season when she tagged out on both gobblers in two days.  Awesome memories made again this 2018 season, Brad said.

A very proud Dad with his daughter, Zoee on last year's bird! Brad is the owner of Killinbuck Outfitters & Brad Snow Logging.

2018 Riverfest Music & Arts Festival

Our annual Vicksburg Riverfest started last night at 6:00 pm with two stages (North & South) with a lineup of bands playing both nights.  It also includes our hometown hero and country star, William Michael Morgan later tonight.

I went downtown around 3:00 this afternoon and took some pictures of the festivities which included arts/crafts show, a barbecue cookoff, Kid's land, crawfish, GospelFest and much more.  There was lots of food and drinks as well.  Also, some line dancing going on that I video and posted at the bottom of my post.

I hope the rain holds off with 30% by 11:00 pm when "our country star" will appear.  We have storms coming in early in the morning and all day Sunday.  I'm so glad we had a good turnout this weekend at the festival and the weather was good.  Below are some pictures I took at random of what was going on when I went earlier this afternoon.

The Queen Of The MS @ Waterfront

Yesterday, the riverboat Queen of the Mississippi was moored with her passengers to tour our historic civil war town of Vicksburg, Mississippi.

This picture was taken walking through the Children's Art Park at Catfish Row to get to the waterfront for a closer look.

A "catfish" at the Children's Art Park at Catfish row on Levee Street.

The Queen of the Mississippi moored near the gage marks on the floodwall of past floods.

The Yazoo Diversion Canal flood waters are receding and will not be long before you can walk down to the lower part of the waterfront...maybe?

Up close of the beautiful Queen of the Mississippi!  Tomorrow the American Queen and American Duchess will be back.  On Sunday, the Queen of the Mississippi will return again.

River Level: 43.00 feet - Change: +0.13 foot - Flood Stage: 43 feet
Mississippi River is on the rise again.

Frozen Tail Feathers

My Facebook friend, Mike Persichini took these pictures recently of a long bearded turkey hanging out under a building canopy waiting for the ice to slide off his back.

He said he could have picked him up with his feathers frozen.

What God's creatures have to endure during the cold weather in our great wild outdoors!

It Made My Day!

I was pleasantly surprised this morning when I was asked to share my photo of "America" and "American Queen" that I posted on "Mississippi River Photos" on Facebook last week.  Someone asked if they could share it and of course, I said, sure!  Did not know at the time that it was the Administrator of the site wanting to place my photo at the top of the site.  It really made my day and thanked him for considering my photo worthy.  What an honor!

Nice Fish & First Turkey!

Leon Scaife of Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi went to his sons' in-law's property outside Bastrop, Texas to turkey hunt and caught this nice fish instead.

He took his grandson turkey hunting and called up this big Rio for him.  The beard measured 10-1/2 inches with 1-3/16 inch spurs.  It was his very first turkey and a very proud poppa, he said.  He's bringing his grandson upright by making fond memories!  What a happy little hunter!

Congratulations to both of you in our wild and wonderful Texas outdoors!
