Youngsters On The Hunt

Kathleen Barnes shot a 180-pound, 8-point buck while hunting with her dad, Stanley Harris, on November 23. She shot it from 200 yards away with a .270.

Cody Pearson, 8, killed this spike deer in northern Warren County using a .44 Marlin. The deer weighed about 110 pounds.

Brothers Carson and Brandon Lynn have both been happy hunters this season. Carson, 7, left, bagged his first deer on youth weekend while hunting with his father at Capitol Hunting Club. The 9-pointer weighed 223 pounds and had a 15-inch spread. Brandon, 13, was hunting on private land near LeTourneau when he took this 9-point, 210-pound buck with a 17-inch spread. Brandon and Carson are the sons of Billy and Beverly Lynn.

Sisters Ebony and Olivia Tilden, each got their first deer this season. Ebony, left, killed a spike with a youth .243 from 200 yards on Thanksgiving morning. Olivia, above got a doe with her youth .243 on November 22. Both girls were hunting with their father, Clay Tilden, on private land.

My congrats to our young hunters in our great wild outdoors!

  1. My husband is a hunter. He tried to take our son hunting a few times but my son's heart and soul is not into it like my husband's. So, my husband goes hunting with a buddy or buddies. I don't hunt, but I do help him butcher his kills. And, I hate butchering! However, I much rather do it than him taking his kills to a butcher.

I've got to get busy with making jerky and sausages to make room for next year's hunt. Oh, by the way, my hubby got a once in a life time chance at bagging a bison in 2008.

  2. Well, hunting is not for everyone...but glad your son got a chance to go with his Dad to the woods. Most of the time now we take our deer to a processor. We did butcher our deer when we were a lot younger. I have made jerky and it is soooo good. Congrats to your husband bagging a bison. Would love to get a story of his hunt and put on my site with picture. That would be great Tasha...thanks for coming by...and will check out your blog again. Happy New Year to you and yours! :)
