Steve, a friend of mine, sent me this cool 104 year old movie yesterday of San Francisco taken four days before the Apirl 1906 earthquake.
This film was "lost" for many years. It was supposedly the first 35 mm film ever? It was taken by camera mounted on the front of a cable car.
The number of automobiles is staggering for 1906. Absolutely amazing!
The clock tower straight ahead at the end of Market Street at the Embarcadero wharf is still there.
Click here to watch this 7 minute movie that will take you back in time and hope you enjoy watching! (This film was shipped by train the next day to New York for processing)
(I'm also wondering...how many "street cleaning" people were employed to pick up after the horses. Talk about going green!)
That is a very neat movie. It seemed like the pedestrians, cars , cable cars and horses were very busy. ;)
ReplyDeleteYes, it is very neat CDGardens...I really enjoyed watching it and also sad to know that all of those people are not with us today. Wonder how many survived the earthquake and how many died?
ReplyDeleteThannks for sharing Marian, that video is truly amazing! I was mesmerized watching it.
