Dalton Morgan,10, took his first turkey March 16 while hunting with his father in southern Warren County. The turkey had a 6-inch beard and was shot from 35 yards away. Dalton is the son of Brian and Jaclyn Morgan. Dalton is one happy kid in our great wild outdoors! My congrats!
Monty McGuffie shot this 20-pound turkey March 22 in Claiborne County. The gobbler had seven beards measuring from 5 1/2-inch to 11 1/2-inches in length, and also had 1 1/4-inch spurs.
Monty is also a taxidermist who mounted my very first 8 point buck. His mother and I are good friends and worked together for the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers. We have also deer hunted at my old hunting ground, Jasper Bottom Hunting Club in Claiborne County. I'm so very happy for Monty and congratulate him on his fine gobbler!
Will you go hunting for turkey??
ReplyDeleteI was invited by my friend, Sharon, to hunt with her at her home in Tennessee but will not be able to go. We had a blast hunting for a week at my camp 2 years ago before I got out of my camp. Her husband was stationed her for a year and got to me her. Hopefully, next year I can turkey hunt with her. Her turkey season started yesterday (March 31). She said she heard and saw a turkey behind her house in the hills and hopefully she will get it. If so, will post it here on my blog.
ReplyDeleteDean - I had not turkey hunted in years and when I met Sharon and we went...I got the turkey fever bad. Just get you a caller and go sit by a tree and see if you can hear one gobble back. It's awesome when you can get them to talk back! Good Luck!
