Congratulations John!

John Jabour with his successful harvest.

A 165 lb. 7 point buck.

To the left of my stand. A very misty foggy day.

To the right of my stand a road going down to the gravel pit where the deer feeder is located.

In front of my stand where nothing walked out. The only thing I saw was a squirrel jumping from tree to tree.

John's 7 pt. buck went down a very steep ravine and it took the hunters almost an hour to pull it out with a lot of rope. Also, I met Kate who was at the deer camp house from The Vicksburg Post to take pictures of a coon hunt that was to begin after all the hunters were out of the woods in our great outdoors!

Youth on the Hunt

Just a few weeks after killing her first deer, 6-year-old McKayla Daves got her second while hunting on her family's alligator farm in Tensas, LA, earlier this month. Daves shot this 9-point buck just before dusk. The rack is 20 inches wide and had a rough Boone and Crockett score of 140. Daves is the daughter of Johnny and Connie Daves of Newellton, LA.

Logan Sanderford, 6, shot her first deer, an 8-point buck, on November 16 in northern Warren County while hunting with her father. Logan is the daughter of Bill and Jennifer Sanderford of Vicksburg.

Lacey Parker, 6, killed her first deer on November 15. She took down the 115-pound doe with a .243 rifle while hunting with her father, Mike. Lacey is the daughter of Mike and Angela Parker.

Karley Whittington, 9, shot her first deer while hunting with her father, Daryle, at Hills and Hollows Hunting Club. Karley used a .243 rifle to shoot the 105-pound doe from a distance of 70 yards.

Kyle Boyd, 10, shot this 6-point buck while hunting in Scott County on November 16. It was his first deer. Kyle is the son of Angela and Rick Boyd of Vicksburg. Congrats to all our young hunters in our great outdoors! Charming, Just Charming!

Grandsons and Great Grandsons

Pictured here is my daughter, Kathleen, "Kathy", with her two grandsons, my great grandsons, Tidus David and Ian. It was so nice to have both of my great grandson's together for Thanksgiving Dinner. Kathy is an avid deer huntress and we have enjoyed numerous hunts together. Hopefully, someday I will be able to take my great grandsons with me hunting in our great outdoors. This will be a sweetthing!

Great Grandson's Surprise Visit

A cutie!

Tidus playing with the rain stick.

A happy little boy!

A proud Great Gran Gran and Tidus!

I'm so thankful because I got to see my great grandson, Tidus David, yesterday. He and his Mom, Candace, flew from Great Falls, MT, to visit family here for Thanksgiving. I have not seen him since he was 3 months old. Now he is 18 months old. I had my camera ready and took a lot of pictures. He weighs 40 lbs. now. A tough little fellow and was into everything! Wishing everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving Day!

Thanksgiving Write About the Good Challenge

Kristine at Outdoor Bloggers Summit invited us to write a post about someone who has mentored or inspired us to hunt or fish, or about the person who inspired us to blog.....

I’m so thankful for my 2nd husband, Bob, who introduced me to hunting. If it were not for him I would not be where I’m at today. I was 45 when I met him and did not know he was a hunter at the time. While dating he would take me with him and we would sit on a ridge or I would sit behind a ground blind and watch him hunt in his climbing deer stand. I was so impressed how hard it was to hunt and what patience. You can sit on a deer stand for days and not see a deer and then when it happens it’s very exciting. It was a rewarding experience for me to learn to hunt, bring food to the table and most of all see the sun come up in the woods and come alive with all God‘s creatures. I had never picked up a gun or even shot one until I met him and actually told him one day that I could do this! I just knew this was what I wanted to do and it has really been a very rewarding experience. Most of all, I was able to introduce the sport of hunting to my daughters, grandchildren and friends which could not have been possible if not for Bob.

I’m also thankful for my mentor, Rex, who came to my website, A Dixie Lady Deer Hunter, and encouraged me to keep my blog going which has turned into a friendship with him, his family and friends that has exceeded my expectations.

For my friends that I have come in contact with while Blogging, I feel so fortunate to have met so many nice people and a few I have met personally. I also feel as if they are all part of my extended family and I look forward to meeting them one day at our Outdoor Bloggers Summit.

Hunting Bob's Box Stand

Hunting out of Bob's box stand on the ground. Two yearlings came out across the road from the left and fed and left the same way they came in. Need to clip the branch that is obstructing the view. When I scoped one of the yearlings the branch was in the way.

Bobby showing off his nice 122 lbs. doe.

Bob and I did an afternoon hunt at the HWY 61 North Hunting Club yesterday. He decided to hunt off of our 4-wheeler in another area and I hunted off of his box stand. Had several hunters to go by and one was Bobby. When Bob came to pick me up Bobby drove by with his doe that he had just harvested. The doe weighed 122 lbs. Bob did not see anything but I saw two yearlings that came out about 5:05 and fed for about 15 minutes. Yesterday morning one of the hunters had shot a 140 lb. doe while walking down the road to his stand. It was in the same area where I was hunting. It could possibly be the yearlings mama. We will most likely go back Thursday afternoon and hunt the rest of the week in our great outdoors!

No Deer On Opening Day!

Looking up from my deer stand. It was 24 degrees early this morning! Brrrrr

Sitting in my deer stand waiting and waiting...need to get that big limb midway cut down.

Got on my stand about 6:30, a little late considering I got up at 4:30. Did not sleep very well in our new camper. Just wasn't my own bed. Did not see a deer but had two hunters come by on their 4-wheelers with a doe which weighed in at 115 lbs. and a 7 pt. buck at 170 lbs. Did not get a picture of them. As I was heading back to the camp, they were leaving taking them to the processor. They did take a Polaroid and will try and see if I can bring it home and scan it. I did see the 7 pt. on one of the hunters camera phone. A really nice buck. Bob did not see anything either. It was fun telling our hunting stories and eating together at the big camphouse last night and at lunch today. Everyone has a CB radio and I knew a 7 point was down and the doe was taken down from me. They radio me to be looking for it since it was coming in my direction after it was shot. After the afternoon hunt, we decided to come home and rest up and go back tomorrow and do an afternoon hunt. The hunting club is only 15 minutes from the house due north of Vicksburg in our great outdoors!

LOCAL DEER HUNTERS HELP FEED THE HUNGRY

Charles Count, MD - The field staff members of Huntonly.com - a website created and managed by hunters as a resource for the hunting community - have donated 15 deer to Maryland's Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry (FHFH) program. The deer were harvest throughout Southern Maryland during Maryland's deer hunting season.

Through the FHFH program, farmers and hunters deliver their legally harvested deer or the big game to a participating meat processor. The meat is processed, packaged and frozen and made available to local food banks at no charge. According to FHFH, one deer can provide 200 meals.

"When we learned about this program, the field staff at Huntonly.com and two other area businesses - Fred's Sporting Goods and Creative Whitetails Taxidermy - decided to get involved. With today's economy, we can only imagine there is more of a need this year than ever before. We felt inclined to lend a hand to our community, and what better way to do that then through a sport we enjoy?" said Steve Johnson of Huntonly.com. The 15 deer donated to FHFH by Huntonly.com will provide over 3,000 meals to people in the local community.

Huntnonly.com is continuing its charitable efforts and will be hosting a fundraiser on Saturday, December 6 at Scott's Bar in Welcome, MD. "Hunter Poluzza" will begin at 7 p.m., attendees can enjoy food and drink and participate in a raffles for a variety of hunting gear including a H&R Ultra Slug Gun, donated by Freds Sports of Waldorf, MD. Proceeds from the raffles will benefit a local charity (to be determined.)

Deer Little Rupert ~ A Preemie

This tiny deer was delivered three weeks early by Cesarean section at a wildlife hospital after his mother was killed by a car. Little Rupert, who is so small he can fit in an adults hand, was born after vets failed in their battle to save his mother.

At just six inches tall and weighing just over a pound, he is now in an incubator in the intensive care unit at Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital in Buckinghamshire. He has only recently opened his eyes. Les Stocker, founder of Tiggywinkles, said: Rupert's mother had very severe injuries. We brought him out and got him breathing and then he went into an incubator on oxygen. He is now being fed by a tube.

Tucked in, Little Rupert is in an incubator.

Dear deer: Rupert pulls a striking pose for the camera. Staff are optimistic Rupert, now five days old, will make a full recovery. Deer are very, very tricky but this one has spirit. He's extremely feisty little guy and quite pushy, Mr Stocker said.

Asleep: Rupert takes 40 winks.

On The Wing

Recently in The Vicksburg Post there was an article showing hundreds of snow geese circling in unison landing into a flooded rice field at the Howard Miller Wildlife Management Area in Issaquena County. It's a waterfowl hunter's dream in our great outdoors.

Once a series of flood-controlled fields used for rice farming, the 2,430 acres that make up the Howard Miller WMA are preparing to open to the public for the second season of waterfowl hunting - and plans are in the works to make it the most used management area in the state by hunters, birdwatchers, researchers and schoolchildren alike.

The facility would have viewing stations and would invite school groups and the public to take part in educational seminars on waterfowl identification and habitats. Another portion of the facility would be used by biologist to conduct research and enforce bag limits.

The management area is named after Vicksburg native Howard Miller, who was a waterfowl hunting enthusiast and served as chairman of the MDWFP for nearly a decade until his death in 1999. His friend and business partner, Jack Branning, said Miller would be proud to know this namesake WMA was being used by so many hunters and being expanded for even more community participation.

He was very instrumental in getting an awful lot of things done for the general public to have hunting opportunities, as well as for wildlife conservation in general," said Branning. "He was an outstanding outdoors man, and he loved duck hunting. He hunted every day of the duck season."

A Great Youth Deer Hunt

Leaving Christmas Rd and the end to another great hunt in the outdoors!

The youth hunters great harvest!
Yearling suckling it's Mama.
Deer in field behind me.
The field in front of my stand where most of the deer came out.

The beautiful field behind me.

The young hunters posing for a picture on the gator with Camo!

Thomas with Paul who took him on his first deer hunt.

A proud Thomas with his first deer...a doe. This was his lucky day because he harvested another doe that evening. Congratulations Thomas and to all the young hunters at the deer camp who harvested a deer!

I got to the deer camp of the famous Christmas Place Plantation and Hunting Club around 8:00 and had not been there no more than 15 minutes when Paul and Thomas came in with a nice doe that Thomas had harvested. It was the beginning of a day of hunting that turned out to be the best Youth Hunt that I had ever witnessed. After everyone came in from the morning hunt the kids were all excited telling their stories and later they enjoyed the day riding around on 4-wheelers and gators till it was time to go back out and hunt some more. Spencer, Rex's son, took me to the Arrowhead Stand and we jumped deer that were already in the field. He saw that I got up in the tripod and got situated and he hunted two stands down from me. I had an excellent stand to take pictures of deer, if they walked out again....and they walked again....15 of them! They were behind me, they were in front of me. It was the most exciting day that I have had in a very long time. It was very nice, cold and windy day. At one point, I had two yearlings to come out in front of me and were eating when all of a sudden I saw Mama deer come into the field. As soon as she walked in a few steps, one of the yearlings bounced over to her and started suckling. I could not believe it and was able to take two pictures before she kicked him out of the way! When I got back to the camp their were 7 deer that had been harvested. It was the most memorable day for all the young hunters/adults and will be a day we all will never forget while hunting in our great wild outdoors!
