On Pig Control

Josh Robertson from Carson, Mississippi and two of his sons shown here with some hogs that they took down last week and said they got 12 in all.

Here is Josh Robertson with his sons back in April taking down a bunch of hogs in our great wild Mississippi outdoors!  My congrats to the Roberson family in eradicating these nasty but good eating Bar-B-Que hogs!

Sunday Lunch @ The Tomato Place

This past Sunday I was invited to have lunch with a friend of mine, Johnette at The Tomato Place.  We really had a nice lunch of the biggest and fattest hamburger that I have ever eaten.  Wished I had taken a pix of it for you.  It was delicious with fries and we enjoyed a cream cheese pound cake that was out of this world for dessert.  I would highly recommend this unique place to eat, buy tomatoes, fresh everything including smoothies and all kinds of different things.  Everything is for sale there!  It is located HWY 61 South from my hometown of Vicksburg, MS.  Here are some pictures I took while we milled around after we ate.

Boiled Peanut! Check out old license plates on building.

Lots of fresh vegetables, fruits and smoothies!

Old license tags spelling out, The Tomato Place!

Pretty flowered pots everywhere.

An old Jacuzzi used as a Koi fish tank.

Outside seating!

Lily and lily pads in Jacuzzi!

A very tall bottle tree with chimes, etc.

Love this chair!

You are welcome to sit outside as well.

Bright red tomato's.

Flowers galore!

A Tomato Place frame above where we ate.

Across from us.

Right above us were bottles and jars of all kinds of things to purchase.

I parked near this old barn next to buildings with a sign saying, BUY PECAN!

A Holiday Celebration In Vicksburg, MS!

Yesterday, I drove to the Vicksburg National Cemetery in the Vicksburg National Military Park to take some pictures of the headstones with flags for Memorial Day weekend.  The holiday weekend began with a call for volunteers on Friday to place flags on the tombstones.  The celebration includes a festival, re-enactors, a monument rededication, concert and parade in my hometown.

Before I went through the Vicksburg National Cemetery, I stopped by the USS Cairo and Museum and took a couple of pictures.

USS Cairo was launched in 1861 and commissioned on January 25, 1862.  It was sunk by a mine on December 12, 1862 and raised in 1964 as a museum ship.  A must see if you come to my hometown of Vicksburg, MS.

More than 17,000 American flags were placed in the Vicksburg National Cemetery Friday to honor the fallen soldiers for Memorial Day. More than ninety volunteers worked throughout the cemetery to place flags ahead of Monday's holiday.

Picture Published In Thursday's Hometown Paper

American Queen shows an up-close comparison with the rise of the Yazoo Diversion Canal due to the Mississippi River being over flood stage while unloading her passengers to tour our civil war town at The Old Depot Museum May 24.  You are invited to submit your photos to share with The Vicksburg Post readers.  You can email high resolution images in JPEG format to photos@vicksburgpost.com

My picture was published in Thursday paper, The Vicksburg Post, but I was not credited for the picture, which was a first for me.  I did contact them by email about it and got a reply that it was a mistake and was being forwarded to the President and Publisher, Tim Reeves.  Whether it will be corrected and republished I do not know.  I do know that it was an honest mistake and that I'm proud that they considered my picture worthy to be published in our hometown paper, The Vicksburg Post

Happy 10th Birthday, Tidus David!

My Great Grandson, Tidus David Barnhart, lives in Great Falls, Montana and I don't get to see him at all since he lives so far away.  I wish I could be with him today to celebrate his birthday but can't.  I do hope he has a fun filled 'special' day and gets lots of presents.

Tidus David is shown here with a cute penguin recently when he went to a marine water park featuring whales, sea lions, dolphins and other marine animals.  What fun he must have had!

Wishing him the best Happy "10" Birthday ever!  I love and miss you so very much!  Great Gran Gran

The American Queen and Queen of the Mississippi are in town all day with their passengers to tour our historic civil war town while moored in the Yazoo Diversion Canal.

A lot of activity today with 8 buses transporting the tourist to historical sites.

Yesterday afternoon, a towboat navigating south on the Mississippi struck the Old Highway 80 Bridge.  In the process, a total of 11 barges broke loose from the tug, but were later recovered.  No one was injured and the Old Highway 80 Bridge was reopened to rail traffic Tuesday evening.

FLOOD ALERT: River Level at 48.30 feet and changed at +0.01 foot. Flood Stage is 43 feet.

Michael's Bobcat Mount

Michael Edward Ogden of Carriere, MS, said that he got his bobcat mount back this past weekend and forgot how big this dude was!  A beautiful and awesome mount.  My congrats to Michael in our great wild and wonderful Mississippi outdoors!

Love all Michael's mounts!

My bobcat that I took a picture of instead of shooting it while hunting on the Arrowhead Stand (tripod) at the famous Christmas Plantation on January 17, 2009 on the edge of the Mississippi Delta.
