A Dixie Lady Deer Hunter
Article by Fred Messina, editor of "On Target Outdoors" from The Vicksburg Evening Post on Friday, January 19, 1990. Photo by Bob Phillips.
Bob Phillips came up the other day with a photo of his wife Marian and a deer she got on Brown's Point New Years Eve. The deer was an 8-point with 16 inches of inside spread that weighed in at 190 pounds. A nice trophy in anyone's book. However, the tale Bob told is that this was Marian's fourth deer this year and he claimed that he would have done better than he did if he had not spent so much time hauling Marian's deer out of the woods. Come off it, Bob. We all know who the hunter was.

Deer Hunts @ Ross Barnett Reservoir
The Pearl River Valley Water Supply District begins taking applications this past Friday for deer hunts at Ross Barnett Reservoir.
The application deadline is August 13.
Hunts will take place from October 1 to January 21 and are archery only. Hunters chosen in a drawing will pay $300 for hunts below the spillway and $200 in the Pelahatchie Bay zones.
Hunts during the first week will be limited to four days because the season begins on a Thursday. Later hunts will begin on Tuesdays and end on Sundays.
Hunters may kill a total of three deer including two antler-less deer and one buck with either a 15-inch inside spread or an 18-inch main bean minimum.
Hunters may bring one guest, who may be non-resident, but must be legally licensed.
