Airboat Fun While Killing Pigs

This has to be a new way of killing pigs.  Last month, Joseph Tatum and a friend went pig hunting in an airboat in the Pearl River.  In three hours, they had killed 18 pigs.  Five over 250 lbs and two nice boars.  My congratulations on a job well done!

I never thought of using an airboat.  I killed two pigs up in the Delta near Eden, MS, while deer hunting, when about 12 pigs walked out and were feeding.  Three big ones, and I put it between a big sow's eyes and dropped her, and then shot another one running.  

The sow weighed 180 pounds.  I was the talk of the camp.  So many memories hunting at the famous Christmas Place Plantation Hunting Club.  I miss it so much, especially after my hunting buddy, Rex Howell, passed away at the age of 62 on the last day of hunting season, January 31, 2021.  He is sadly missed by his family and all his hunting friends.

Today, my Granddaughter, Victoria Leigh, is celebrating her 37th Birthday. Born on Halloween, her Dad called her “Spook,” which fits her perfectly. She gave me my great-grandson Ian, who will be 18 in a few days. Victoria is a very caring and sweet granddaughter. I wish her a very happy birthday, filled with happiness and joy. Wishing my 3rd daughter, Debra Ann "Debi", a very Happy 56th Birthday today.  Debi works as a Nanny for two doctors' little girl.  She is also a mother to two sons, Stephen and Michael (Ethan), and a daughter, Lucy.  She is blessed with three grandsons, William, Noah, and Asher.  I'm wishing her many more incredible years to come.  I love you, MOM.

Pictures Taken Building A Road Near MS River

My granddaughter and grandson-in-law own a business and took these pictures while building a road near the MS River recently. The last photo was taken by my granddaughter of the bridges. You can see the sandbar is way out on the Louisiana side of the river. The river stage yesterday was approximately 7.1 feet. Flood stage is 43 feet.

Part of Jefferson County will be added to the chronic wasting disease area in Mississippi. Hunters are asked to harvest more deer this year, up to the bag limit, due to the abundance of deer.

CWD. It is expected to move slowly to the south. 128 deer tested positive for CWD in the past year in this state.

Just had the best visit from my youngest great-grandson yesterday. Asher lives in OH and came to visit his relatives in Mississippi. He is 4 years old, and two great-grandmothers were able to enjoy it, along with four generations of family.

Love, Sr., was born June 12, 1916, and passed away on November 6, 1987, from a heart attack hitting the Wisconsin Ave. bridge abutment.  I just happened to live on Wisconsin Ave., and have to cross the bridge that goes across I-20 in Vicksburg, MS.  I miss and love you so much.

Swamp Deer

During deer season many years ago, I decided to stay on my stand all day. I had just eaten my lunch about 12:15 and was taking a little nap while the sun was shining on my head, when I heard a snap of a branch. I looked towards the swamp area and saw a doe coming to the right of my stand. I immediately put my hat on for good luck and got my gun ready. I shot, and the doe came towards me, and as she turned in front of my stand, I could see the exit hole. I knew I had her. She turned towards the swamp again, and I feared she would enter it. I waited for about 20 minutes and got down to look. As I walked towards the swamp slowly, I turned to my left, and two does were headed right for me. I could not believe it! They were no more than 25 yards to my left.

What I did next will make you laugh...I said "BOO" and they took off! I laughed at myself...I can't believe I just told two deer "BOO"! I wanted to find the deer that I had just shot. I finally found her lying right next to the swamp. Bob was hunting at his camp then, and Allen came from the camp house when he heard me shoot. He said that his Dad had told him to check on me because I probably got a deer. Allen took a picture of me and helped me return my deer to the camp. A very successful and unusual hunt!

I received cute pictures from my daughter, Debi, and granddaughter, Lucy, of my great-grandsons, William David "Will" and Noah. Noah just got a medal for playing soccer, and you can see how excited he was running to show his Mom and Grandmother.  

I love the fishing pictures of them catching their first fish. Will with his Mom showing off his bass and Noah showing off his brim with excitement.. 

It looks like they are having the time of their lives. Oh, to be so young and innocent, enjoying their childhood in our great Mississippi outdoors!
