First Hunting Season With Little Ones

My Facebook friend, Amy Elizabeth Sylvester, of Lafayette, Louisiana and family are getting ready for hunting season.  

               She said this will be the first hunting season for her little ones.  Talk about excited!

Wishing her family GOODHUNTING in our great wild and wonderful outdoors. This is great parenting! 

Dad & Daughter Went Fishing!

Scott Mackner of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota took his young daughter fishing recently and caught a very nice fish.  

You can tell by the look on her face that she had a blast with her Dad and he is parenting just right in our great wild and wonderful outdoors!

Sunset Pix On Front Page

I was so surprised today when I received my paper and saw my picture of the sunset in color on the front page bottom right hand corner of our hometown paper.  I took it on July 19 and was lucky to get this shot of the sun setting at a gas station at the Mississippi River.  I have been very lucky to have my pictures published before but usually on the 3rd page in black and white.  Many thanks to The Vicksburg Post for putting it on the front page...a first!

Nicholas Broom took this picture of fish he caught on his tailgate and the fish he fried up.  Said he used liver for bait.  It doesn't get any better than this in our great Mississippi outdoors! Nice catch Nicholas and good eating too! Congratulations!

Corbin Went Fishing!

Michael Richardson of Portage, Pennsylvania took his son Corbin fishing recently and he said they both cleared out the lake.  

Some ladies couldn't believe a four year old could cast and hook everything by himself.

They both had a blast and doubled up a few times.

Heading for Delta Point

Around 11:15 yesterday morning on my way home I took pictures of M/V Arlene making her way northbound towards the bend in the Mississippi River called Delta Point.

Her destination was Lake Charles, LA.

Was carrying hazardous category B material according to FINDSHIP.

Coming up on Delta Point at my hometown of Vicksburg, MS on a very hot and humid day in the south!

LA Sandbars & Tug Maxx B

Went by the Louisiana Circle today around 1:00 and took some pictures of the sandbars that are out on the Louisiana side.  The Mississippi River level is 19.90 feet and change +0.13 foot.  Flood stage is 43 feet.  

Have seen a lot of activity on weekends at this particular sandbar location.

I saw a tugboat coming and decided to wait and take pictures of M/V Maxx B as he went under the two bridges at Vicksburg, MS.

One last picture of the sandbar under the bridges.  I have been to this sandbar several times and had lots of fun back in the days.

Mess Of Frogs

Looks like Jordan Buchanan of Clinton, MS is going to enjoy some good eating after catching this mess of frogs.  An overloaded tailgate full.  My congrats to Jordan in our great wild outdoors!  

Destinee's Fish!

Ashley Poling's daughter, Destinee, of Burnsville, West Virginia, just caught a fish at the Burnsville Lock and Dam.  She is one happy little girl. Proud of her in our great wild and wonderful outdoors!  My congrats little one!

Recycled Mississippi Boat

My Facebook friend, Layne Logue, took pictures Saturday of some young men making their way down the second longest river in the USA on a boat made from recycled and reclaimed materials.  I'm sharing this amazing trip with you if you want to check out their journey on the Mighty Mississippi.  

Recycled Mississippi made it to Vicksburg, Mississippi Saturday and topped off their drinking water. They are raising awareness about pollution...so that we can keep our beautiful rivers beautiful. And the Mississippi River IS beautiful.

They made Natchez yesterday (Sunday July 31)...and they're planning on going past Venice out the South Pass to the Gulf of Mexico.

Here is a great News interview video from New Zealand of what they are doing. It's a little funny hearing them talk about the Mississippi River in the end.

DAN CULLUM - EXPEDITION LEADER

Dan has been leading 'recycled expeditions' on kayaks made from plastic bottles in his spare time for the past three years. His passion for the environment began in University when he worked on a short film about creative ways to integrate sustainability education into the classroom that won a United Nation's Film Competition. Dan has spoken at numerous events around the world about his work in youth social movements and sustainability, including: World Economic Forum, TEDxChristchurch, and The United Nations Rio+2- Conference on Sustainable Development.

GARY BENCHEGHIB - FILMMAKER / PRODUCER

Gary is a filmmaker and environmental activist. Witnessing his home island of Bali change from a tropical paradise to a congested playground for the world's economic elite, with trash overflowing it's once picturesque beaches, he founded Make A Change Bali at 14-years old: a non-profit organization aimed at educating the local community about the effects of plastic waste and the importance of sustainable waste management. His latest project The Reclamation is a documentary exploring Tolak Reklamasi, one of the biggest environmental movements in the history of Indonesia, reach over 3 million people and obtaining write ups including Rolling Stone Magazine, CNN, and ABC Radio Australia.

LIVIO KNOERI - ENGINEER

Livio is a Swiss Engineer and is responsible for the overall design and build of the Recycled Mississippi catamaran. During university Livio was a core member of the Pangaea Project Community in Europe, a group of students that ran environmental camps and clean-ups across Germany and Serbia.

HANNES STAUFFER - ENGINEER

Hannes is the other half of Recycled Mississippi's Swiss Engineering duo, responsible for the woodwork and mechanical componentry of the Recycled Mississippi catamaran. Hannes brings a wealth of experience in survival tactics and long term expeditions from being the Swiss Army and travelling across the Sahara Desert and the Australian Outback.

SEBASTIAN ENGELHART - SKIPPER

Sebastian is an American citizen born and raised in Hong Kong. Seb grew up sailing and brings invaluable on the water experience to the team that will help ensure safe passage down the Mississippi River. He has also spent a lot of time in the outdoors on expeditions in Southern Africa and along the Great Wall of China, and via competing in ultramarathons across Asia. Seb is currently studying at the University of Pennsylvania.
