Road Trip To Natchez National Cemetery (1)

Last Saturday my friend, Johnette and I took a road trip to Natchez, MS.  The trip was to visit her husbands grave who died two years ago and was buried in the Natchez National Cemetery.  On our way down 61 South we past by some strange looking buildings like the one above.  Not sure what it is but looks like a silo.

Close-up view with a doorway!

Above is the Old Country Store in Lorman, MS.  I have been in this store several times going to Natchez through the years.

It's a country store/restaurant now serving "soul food" with a lunch buffet featuring heavenly fried chicken!

We took a two mile side trip down Red Lick Road to Rosswood Cotton Plantation Mansion which is a Mississippi Landmark circulated 1857 and checking it out one day.

Tour hours!

Rosswood was shelled during the Civil War, used as a hospital for both sides, and now had been restored and furnished.  You can view real plantation diaries and documents, tour the mansion and slave quarters and sleep in history.  We are looking forward to touring it.   To be continued...

First Time Hunter Hooked!

Jason Nicholas' son got his very first deer yester-day morning.  He spotted the deer and shot him like a seasoned pro, he said.  The best part was that after he shot, he got a bad case of the Elvis Presley legs and couldn't even stand up.  How I know that feeling!  He is now hooked for life and another hunter is born.  Check out that smile on his face and his shot placement!  Priceless!  Congratulations to this young hunter in our great wild and wonderful Mississippi outdoors.

A Three Legged 9 Point Buck!

Michael "Mike" Dorsett, a Tour Guide at the Vicksburg National Military Park in Vicksburg, MS, killed a 3 legged 9 point buck today in Jefferson County.  It's either a birth defect or got shot off.  I'm surprised he reached adulthood with all the coyotes out there.  This one buck survived and thrived through it all until today.  My congrats to Mike on his 3 legged buck that you don't see everyday in our great Mississippi outdoors!

A Windy Day Buck!

Mandi Fowler of Brandon, MS, killed this nice buck near Indianola, yesterday.  Not a bad day considering it was super windy and 70 degrees she said.  This was not her first buck.  Someone joked about her wearing lipstick but she said she is never without it.  Lipstick or not she did very well for a windy day and can relate.  I also shot at a nice 8 point on a very windy day and they do walk!  Congratulations to Mandi on a job well done in our great wild Mississippi outdoors!

Chelsea's Bobcat

Chelsea Miller of Waynesboro, MS, shot and killed her first bobcat yesterday on her evening hunt.

She said she thought it was a coyote at about 250 yards but a bobcat instead.

That's a pretty good shot for anyone.

She will have it mounted!

My congrats to Chelsea on her killed and our great MS outdoors!

My bobcat I shot a picture of on January 17, 2009 while hunting on the Arrowhead (tripod) Stand at the famous Christmas Place Plantation and Hunting Club on the edge of the Mississippi Delta.

Bruce On A Roll!!!

Dustin McLeod's son, Bruce, killed him a few critters this past Youth Hunt Weekend in MS.  It is safe to say that he started the season off with a bang.  Dad said that he was shooting his 300wsm and had some long shots.  He normally shoots a 7mm08 but he told him that he wants his gun after shooting it but had to break the news gently that...that was not going to happen.

My congrats to Bruce on getting the job done in our great wild and wonderful Mississippi outdoors!
