Roadside Evening Fishing

Asheley Snell of Leakesville, MS took her daughter, Gabby fishing on a roadside one evening and caught a good mess of fish.  Raise them up in the way they should go and when they are old, they will not depart from it.  My congrats to little Gabby in our great wild and wonderful Mississippi outdoors!  Way to go!

MS Deer Plaque

Dalton McGowan of Wyatt, MS, recently got his big 12-point buck from this year back.  He said that Jamie Davis at Barebones Taxidermy did the awesome plaque behind him.  He said he charged $65.00 for it and couldn't be happier.  He does all sizes and awesome skull mount combos too.  If you are interested, go to this link at Bare Bones Midsouth for more information.   

Congratulations to Dalton on his fine 12-point buck and I really love the MS Deer Plaque!  Very classy looking!

Docking of America

Today, (Easter Sunday) AMERICA showed up at our waterfront with her passengers to tour our historic civil war town of Vicksburg, MS.

I left before America's walkway was down and was very interesting to see what was involved in landing/docking a riverboat in the Yazoo Diversion Canal. 

LA Black Bear Killed In Vehicle Crash

Authorities in Mississippi say a record-size Louisiana black bear was killed in a collision with a vehicle in Wilkinson County. 

Rosa Robinson of Woodville stuck the bear going southbound on U. S. 61 in her 2001 Chevy Suburban wagon.

The Natchez Democrat reported she fatally struck the full-grown male bear on April 5.  No other serious injuries were reported.  Official say the bear weighed 468, making it the largest ever recorded in Mississippi.

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Black Bear Program leader Richard Rummel says the bear's body is currently being stored in a freezer at the Mississippi Museum of Natural History in Jackson, MS.

Rummel says the department is currently evaluating the preservation of the bear, but it will eventually be used for education purposes.

Officials say the bear was in excellent condition when it died, so a full-mount of the bear might be possible.

I will never be able to express the unspeakable joy I had on the day the Heavens opened up and framed the crucifixion statue at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Vicksburg, MS!  For you see, Jesus is on the other side of that brilliant sunset!  He's alive, my friends, He alive! --

A Bacon Bust

Tylertown, MS - Four people facing criminal charges are accused of trapping and illegally selling wild hogs in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Major Lane Ball says his department cited the four on March 29, raiding a pen in southern Walthall County.

Christopher and Mandy Miley of Franklinton, Louisiana, are charged will illegally importing, transporting and selling wild hogs, and trapping without a license.

Sierra Miley of Tylertown and Bethanie Toothman of Sulphur, Louisiana, are charged with illegally selling hogs.  The four are due April 27 in Walthall County Justice Court.

Although wild hogs are a nuisance, Ball says some people buy them to train hunting dogs.  He says the four are trapping hogs and selling them to people in Louisiana and Mississippi, charging as little as $50.00 apiece.

The Riverboats Are Back In Town!

Today the Grand American Queen and America showed up at our waterfront with their passengers to visit and tour our Civil War town of Vicksburg, MS from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  You can see a walkway going down to the Catfish Row at Children's Art Park. Also, the floodwall with the Vicksburg Riverfront Murals painted by Robert Dafford.

I noticed this American Queen bus that may have been broken down.  Usually it's about 3 or 4 buses to take passengers to different historic locations in town. 

Went to the waterfront to see both of the riverboats up-close.

Raising Them Right!

Greg Blacklidge of Monticello, MS, took a picture of his son with a big fish and said, "Got to raise them right!"  My congrats to his son in our great wild and wonderful Mississippi outdoors!

First Turkey!

Nicole West Stone of Conway, Arkansas is so proud of her little man getting his very first turkey this morning.  WOW!!!  That's a nice bird in anyone's book!   

Andrew, a family friend called it in for him.  My congratulation to this young hunter in our great wild outdoors!  Way to go little one!

Nathan's Big Bird!

Brock Long of Prentiss, MS, wanted to brag about his buddy, Nathan getting this big bird this morning.  He killed this South Mississippi monarch around 10:00 and the turkey weighed 21.75 lbs.

Spurs were 1 3/8-inch without measuring the curve and a 9-inch beard.

Congratulations to Nathan in our great wild and wonderful Mississippi outdoors!

A Few Frogs

Kolby Milano of Central, Louisiana was invited to Mississippi for some frog gigging fun.  It looks like he and his friends made them all croak!  My goodness, that is a lot of fried frog legs for days!  They did not clean the pond out and was plenty left, he said.  The count is 148 dead frogs on the table if you are wondering.  Congratulations to Kolby and his friends who had a blast frog gigging in our wild and wonderful Mississippi outdoors!

Queen of the Mississippi Back In Town

Yesterday, the Queen of the Mississippi showed up at our waterfront for a full day for it's passengers to tour our historic Civil War town of Vicksburg, MS.  I love to take pictures of all the riverboats that come to my hometown.  With the Grand American Queen, America, Queen of the Mississippi, Louisiane and soon the American Duchess, we are in full swing of tourism in our city.  Vicksburg: The Key To The South!  

It's Never Too Late!

Bubba King killed his first gobbler recently even after over sleeping and getting a late start.  It's never to late!  A very nice bird in anyone's book!  Congratulations to Bubba in our wild Mississippi outdoors!  :)

A Little Happy Angler

Mark Barousse took his youngest daughter fishing and look what she got!  He said that they had so much fun yesterday.  She is a cutie and a smile to boot!  Congratulations to this little angler in our great and wonderful and wild Mississippi outdoors!

Melvin's Turkey Harvest

Melvin H. Bullock got this nice turkey over the weekend somewhere in Mississippi and said the Good Lord Blessed him with one after so many years of trying.  My congrats to Melvin in our great wild and wonderful outdoors.  He never gave up!

I was so happy to once again see one of my pictures that I took of the grand American Queen to be published.  The words, "She can run, but she can't hide" was from a comment my Facebook friend Gorges Smythe made and thought it was a pretty good saying for my picture and of course the paper added, "We See You.'"  On the Mississippi River Photos, a Facebook site, I received over 455 "LIKES" and more than 20 comments.  Many thanks again to The Vicksburg Post for publishing my picture and also to the Mississippi River Photos for liking/commenting on my picture as well.
