Classics In The Courtyard @ Vicksburg, MS

The concert I attended last Friday, May 14th was the band Blackwater Trio and food by FitChef.

This courtyard used to be a basketball court when I attended school here and graduated in the Class of 1959.  The empty chair on right was where I was sitting.  On a bench taking a few pictures.

Took this picture leaving the restroom and heading back to listen to the music.  The school (Saint Francis Xavier Academy) was one whole city block and we were taught by the Sisters of Mercy.  I went all 12 grades at SFXA.

This was taken on the bottom court and I remember it so well especially playing and May Pole dance.  The ramp was not there and was put in after the school closed, and was used for the cultural center.

A beautiful day to enjoy music which brought back a lot of fond memories here.  Also, there will be Summer "Happy Hour" Concerts in the SCHA Courtyard on Thursday 5:30-7:30 PM

Summer Line-Up:

Thursday, June 3rd - Tom Barnes Duo
Thusday, July 1st - Blackwater Trio "Deluxe"
Thusday, August 5th - Keys vs Strings

The Bridges @ Vicksburg, MS

Today is such a pretty day after three days of rain. I went by the Louisiana Circle to take pictures of the muddy Mississippi River and the bridges. Also, stopped by the Mississippi Welcome Center to take close-up pictures of the bridges. I was hoping to see a towboat but there was no river traffic at the time or riverboats in town. “America” is scheduled to be here Saturday, and “Queen of the Mississippi,” on Sunday.

Donkey Release

*A donkey was tied to a tree. One night a ghost cut the rope and released the donkey free*.
*The donkey went and destroyed the crops in an adjacent farmer's land. Infuriated, the farmer's wife shot the donkey and killed it.*
*The donkey's owner was devastated at the loss. In reply, he shot dead the farmer's wife*.
*Angered by his wife's death, the farmer took a sickle and killed the donkey's owner*.
*The wife of the donkey's owner got so angry that she and her sons set the farmer's house on fire.*
*The farmer, looking at his house turned into ashes, killed the wife and children of the donkey's owner.*
*Finally, when the farmer was full of regret, he asked the ghost as to why did it kill them all?*
*The ghost replied, "I killed nobody. I just released a donkey that was tied to a rope. It is all of you who released the devils within you which resulted in everything bad that occurred thereafter."*
*Today's media is like that ghost. It keeps releasing donkeys on a daily basis. And people react and argue with each other, hurt each other, without having a second thought.*
*In the end, the media dodges all responsibilities. So, it's our responsibility to not react to every donkey released by the media and preserve our relationship with our friends, relatives, and community*

Asher Ransom Kelly was born Saturday at 5:31 p.m., and my 5th Great Grandson. He weighed 6lbs.11oz. His Mom, Caitlyn is doing great and said he was 20.5 inches long, and if she had gone to term with him she would have had a toddler. My grandson, Ethan who is stationed in ND, in the Air Force, is one proud Dad. What a great Mother’s Day gift. My congratulations to the new parents. Sending lots of love and hugs to the family.

I saw where the overlooks were opened up again and got this picture today of the bridges from the Louisiana Circle. I will be posting more pictures Monday that I took. It seems like forever since the circles have been open. Looks like we are slowly getting back to normalcy finally.

Obituary ~ William (Bill) Walter Worrell

Obituary for William (Bill) Walter Worrell
At 845 a.m. on April 29th, 2021, William (Bill) Walter Worrell abandoned his mortal coil for that final journey to the infinite possibilities of the Universe’s Great Mystery. Born to parents Elizabeth and John Worrell on September 5, 1935 in El Paso, TX, his varied careers led him to eventually become an accomplished sculptor, painter and songwriter, earning him well-deserved acclaim all over the world. Bill grew up in Colorado City, TX, graduated from high school there and attended college at Texas Tech University, earning his Bachelor’s degree. Following graduation, Bill became a Baptist minister, then a professional with the Boy Scouts and then worked for New York Life Insurance before returning to Texas Tech in 1968 to work on a graduate degree in art. He went on to teach art at Odessa College and Houston Baptist University. He completed his graduate degree at North Texas University. When his art career began to flourish, he moved to his property in Mason county, TX, where he has spent the remainder of his life creating and sharing his art. He was also a loyal Freemason.
The inspiration for Bill’s artwork came from the ancient rock paintings in the desert of southwest Texas, many of which were 8000+ years old. He joined the board of the Rock Art Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to the preservation of those rock paintings, and has supported the Shumla Foundation with their current archaeological research and preservation programs in that area. He also established an educational grant for local high school students in Mason.
Bill’s warmth and generosity garnered him the admiration and respect of many, many people who proudly have called him their friends. He is survived by his daughter, Sawndra Worrell, his son Bill Worrell, his brother John Worrell, his grandchildren Mason Matlock and Madisen Matlock Pearcy, several nieces and nephews and his beloved Goldendoodle, Maria. A small funeral service was held at his home on Saturday, May 1, at 1pm. The pallbearers will be Jay Adams, Spider Johnson, Bob Titley, Jim Eppler, Sam Pearcy, Mason Matlock and Wallace Bosse. In lieu of flowers or gifts, you may donate in Bill’s name to the local charities he supported: Steady Steps (https://fumcmason.org/steady-steps-daycare), Mason County Food Pantry (https://bluebonnetcasa.org) and Second Chance Animal Rescue (PO Box 690, Mason, TX 76856). Schaetter Funeral Home in Fredericksburg will be providing funeral services for him (https://www.schaetter.com/obits).
