A Dixie Lady Deer Hunter

Article by Fred Messina, editor of "On Target Outdoors" from The Vicksburg Evening Post on Friday, January 19, 1990. Photo by Bob Phillips.

Bob Phillips came up the other day with a photo of his wife Marian and a deer she got on Brown's Point New Years Eve. The deer was an 8-point with 16 inches of inside spread that weighed in at 190 pounds. A nice trophy in anyone's book. However, the tale Bob told is that this was Marian's fourth deer this year and he claimed that he would have done better than he did if he had not spent so much time hauling Marian's deer out of the woods. Come off it, Bob. We all know who the hunter was.

A Little Elk Calf

Some would come across a mud puddle in a forest and think nothing of it. Some would see a possible wallow. Well, this little elk calf saw something else entirely...Please watch and enjoy this short video!

Too cute. It doesn't make me want to stop hunting, though. All those hunters keeping the herd healthy are what allowed this little calf to be able to play a little.

I'm sure you all already knew that, though. What a great vid.

Thanks SimplyOutdoors...don't want to stop hunting unless I get to the point that I can't hunt anymore due to health reasons. Glad you enjoyed the video! :)

Hi Marian,
This video was actually filmed by my brother David Neils in Colorado. He has a trail cam set up in the woods and the elk frequent this wallow quite a bit. He even has a really funny video of 3 elk calves playing around, all trying to get a chance to play in the wallow. You can see more on www.offthepavement.com. He sure loves the outdoors and I really enjoy being able to see the incredible wildlife that he captures on film.
