A Dixie Lady Deer Hunter

Article by Fred Messina, editor of "On Target Outdoors" from The Vicksburg Evening Post on Friday, January 19, 1990. Photo by Bob Phillips.

Bob Phillips came up the other day with a photo of his wife Marian and a deer she got on Brown's Point New Years Eve. The deer was an 8-point with 16 inches of inside spread that weighed in at 190 pounds. A nice trophy in anyone's book. However, the tale Bob told is that this was Marian's fourth deer this year and he claimed that he would have done better than he did if he had not spent so much time hauling Marian's deer out of the woods. Come off it, Bob. We all know who the hunter was.

Vicksburg On The Hunt

Vicksburg resident Wayne Cummins bagged this 8-point, 263-pound buck on private land in Claiborne County.  He used a .270 rifle and made the shot from 150 yards.  The buck's rack had a 19-inch spread and 23-1/2-inch main beams.

Colt Lee, 8, bagged his first doe on November 13 and then got this 8-point, 235-pound buck two weeks later.  The buck had a 15-inch spread.  Lee took both the 110-pound doe and the buck on private land in northern Warren County.  He is the son of Shawn and Tom Lee of Redwood.

Jace Riggs, 6, bagged this 8-point buck while hunting with his father, Jeremiah Riggs, and grandfather Michael Riggs on private land in Warren County.  The buck weighed 190 pounds.  Jace is the son of Jeremiah Riggs and Chasity Lee.  My congrats to all our hunters in the wild outdoors!
