A Dixie Lady Deer Hunter

Article by Fred Messina, editor of "On Target Outdoors" from The Vicksburg Evening Post on Friday, January 19, 1990. Photo by Bob Phillips.

Bob Phillips came up the other day with a photo of his wife Marian and a deer she got on Brown's Point New Years Eve. The deer was an 8-point with 16 inches of inside spread that weighed in at 190 pounds. A nice trophy in anyone's book. However, the tale Bob told is that this was Marian's fourth deer this year and he claimed that he would have done better than he did if he had not spent so much time hauling Marian's deer out of the woods. Come off it, Bob. We all know who the hunter was.

HEBE Picture Published

Marian Love Phillips shot this photo of the silhouette of the Greek mythology, Hebe, the goddess of youth, at the Bloom Fountain in the Memorial Rose Garden on Monroe Street.

I was excited today to see my picture published that I sent to The Vicksburg Post and was on page 2.  When I do submit a picture to the paper and chosen, it's usually posted in the Classified Section of the Sunday paper. It's really an honor for me to have it on the second page. I took this photo on a very cloudy day while driving pass the Bloom Fountain and was surprised how it turned out and thought I would send it in. Many thanks to The Vicksburg Post for choosing one of my pictures again for our hometown paper.

The original picture I submitted.
