Busy Day On The Mighty MS

The American Eagle once again showed up today at our waterfront looking so regal as usual.

On my way home I took a chance going by the Louisiana Circle and got lucky to see three towboats making their way up the Mississippi River, except for the small Ergon towboat.  Above the M/V Rusty Zeller heading for the bend in the river.

The Ergon towboat heading for the Port of Vicksburg.

M/V Rusty Zeller in front going for the bend in the MS River while the smaller Ergon boat heads for the mouth of the Yazoo Diversion Canal.

M/V Dan Jaworski with a huge tow.

A pulled-out view of the M/V Dan Jaworski near the turn in the bend in the MS River at Vicksburg.

A wide angle view of both M/V's making their way north navigating the turn at Vicksburg, MS.

An Early Morning Surprise

This beautiful shot of a fawn with a buck was taken on August 3, 2014, very early in the morning according to my Facebook friend, Mike Persichini.  It really looks like a beautiful painting to me. Mike takes pictures of deer in an area near his home in Michigan in our great outdoors.

A Smoked Boar

Nathan R. Price recently posted on Facebook a picture of his 6-year-old daughter who smoked this boar by herself.  Don't you just love the attitude look she has?  How cool it is for girls to hunt too in our great wild outdoors!  My congrats!  You Go Girl!

RiverFest Fun

Last night was the beginning of the 28th Annual RiverFest Music and Arts Festival in my hometown of Vicksburg, MS.  The rain held off for the entertainment last night but for tonight it does not look so good. The main attraction of RiverFest is, Craig Wayne Boyd, the winner from last year's "The Voice."  Today was a great turnout for children of all ages to enjoy the festivities as well as for the adults with the arts and crafts. Below are some pictures I took while walking around earlier today.

This car was looking at me through the fence!

American Eagle's First Docking

So proud to have another paddlewheeler named the American Eagle to grace our historical town of Vicksburg, MS.  Yesterday was her very first time to dock here and show herself off.  What a beauty she is!  I made it down to the waterfront around 5:00 when the American Eagle was pulling away to continue the trip to the mouth of the MS River. (Seen here in the Yazoo Diversion Canal). I took a few pictures and made it to the MS Welcome Center to get her going under the bridges as she passed by.  I'm looking forward to her return in the near future loaded down with enthusiastic passengers. This is so great for tourism in my hometown of Vicksburg ~ The Key To The South!

We Have Hog City

According to my Facebook friend, John "Trapper John the Hogman" Schmidt, posting this cam shot on his page today. John says he works for - Me, Myself and I.  He also does a great job eradicating these nasty ole hogs in our great wild and crazy outdoors.

A picture of a nasty hog on his tailgate.  You gotta love the licenses plate!

The Queen Arrived Today

The American Queen came to our historical city today and parked herself right in front of the entrance to the waterfront.

Her smoke stacks peaking up over the Vicksburg Riverfront Murals at the flood wall.

I had to walk to the other end of the waterfront to get a full picture of her majesty.

Walking right on up the red carpet!

Getting ready to head to the mouth of the MS River after she got turned around in the middle of the Yazoo Diversion Canal leaving right after 1:00 this afternoon going north.

Picture taken from the Louisiana Circle heading north to Memphis, TN! She will return to Vicksburg, MS, on April 29, 2015.

Little Bird

Little bird! O little bird!
I wonder at what thou doest,
Thou singing merry far from me,
I in sadness all alone!
Little bird! O little bird!
I wonder at how thou art
Thou high on the tips of branching boughs,
I on the ground a-creeping!
Little bird! O little bird!
Thou art music far away,
Like the tender croon of the mother loved
In the kindly sleep of death.

A Birthday Girl

Today we celebrated my youngest granddaughter Kate's 2nd birthday with family at her Maw Maw and Granddaddy's house in Louisiana.  My youngest daughter and son-in-law drove all the way from Virginia with Kate's big sister, Emma, to enjoy a very nice birthday party with pizza, cake and ice cream. Tomorrow more family is coming in for a big cookout before they all have to leave and go back home next week.  It all worked out great with Emma, who is 7 year old, being on Spring break.  I am so blessed to have 6 beautiful granddaughters and 3 grandsons and 2 great grandsons in my life. One happy and lucky me!

Hogs Gone Wild

Feral hogs are domestic hogs that either escaped or were released for hunting purposes.  Considered a nuisance animal, they complete with livestock and native wildlife for foot.  Their rooting and trampling can damage native habitat, fields and crops.  It's estimated there are over 1.5 million feral hogs in TX.  Use extreme caution around mothers and their young and wounded hogs.  These hogs were videotaped at the Childress High School wildlife management area.  For more info, visit this site.
