My granddaughter, Sonya and BJ!

Thanks to my granddaughter Sonya for letting me tell her story about BJ's travels and adventures here in Mississippi this year. BJ could be over in Europe now and may run into Rex and Denise in Ireland while they are on vacation. That would be a Sweetthing!

BJ ~ The Traveling Chicken

My granddaughter, Sonya (24), shared this with me this past summer and I thought it was so cute and wanted to post it on my blog and show you how BJ got his name and where he has been. It all started on a forum....

On Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at 12:53 pm: An idea for a travelling adventure begins after being inspired from a similar activity with a Blythe doll on another forum. We decided on a chicken since the name of our forum is Cockadoodledoo.

On Saturday, April 8, 2006 at 1:13 am: We began voting for our chicken's name. The possible choices were - Mr. Swauk, Clara Cluck, Chuck Cluck, Bergurk, Percy Poultry, Bwock (Brock pronounced in Chickenese,) Clucky, Plucky, Clarisse, Cocks McGee, BJ, and Bob.

On Saturday, April 15, 2006, at 5:56 am: We decided The Traveling Chicken’s name would be BJ.

On Saturday, May 13, 2006 at 10:31 am: BJ leaves Los Angeles to make his first stop in Ohio. After staying there he went back to California for a bit, then on to Seattle, Washington. After being in Seattle, BJ toured through the states of Texas, Pennsylvania, and Mississippi. Currently, BJ is back in Washington again and has a few more U.S. stops before he will head off to Canada and then on to England and Australia.

I will be posting pictures of BJ's trip to Mississippi and what fun my granddaughter had posing BJ while visiting her.

Last month Dennis, a friend of mine, sent me these photos of a deer with a rabbit and wanted to share them with you. Now that the weather is getting cooler, you began to anticipate hunting season which is not to far away in our great outdoors.

National Street Work

I posted the other day about the digging that was going on outside our home and they had a picture of it in the paper on Thursday. Pictured is Jay Frazier with Walker Walker and Wells Contractors, of Tallulah, preparing for installation of a 24-inch storm drain pipe on National Street Wednesday. Two blocks of National Street was blocked off for the pipe to be installed. The plastic pipe is replacing clay pipe in place for about 100 years.

They are finished on our street but left a lot of white gravel. We need a big rain to wash it all away. We should get some rain out of now tropical storm Ike making its way inland. We have had a lot of high winds. We were spared this time around. Have seen a lot of campers and motor homes parking at the Wal Mart parking lot and around town trying to escape from hurricane Ike.

The Ware House

The Ware House comprises of five buildings built in the mid 1800's, with two bars, one grill, ten suites and three hotel rooms. Next April our Class of 1959 will be renting one of the rooms for our cocktail party and we are all looking forward to having a great time there. It's located in historic downtown Vicksburg and has been meticulously refurbished. It has a European flair and southern warmth, the rooms and suites will take your breath away.

The Ware House is owned by Robert "Rob" Ware, of southern California, but calls Vicksburg his 'home.' He posted on his Ware House Blog that he will never tire of seeing the faces enjoying the venues, creating memories, having fun with friends. Many people say there is nothing to do in Vicksburg. If you have a friend, family or the desire, there is something to do anywhere. It is special time with those we enjoy that make any venue, place or event fun. Go grab a friend!

This would be a real cool place to take our friends Rex and Denise when they come back to Vicksburg for a visit. Charming, Just Charming!

He was one of nine of its men to be selected as ballroom dancers and partners to the 45 contestants. Ware said the idea was pitched as a "Dancing With the Stars"-type endeavor. A Chocolate Mug Cake!

5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

1 Coffee Mug

4 tablespoons flour (that's plain flour, not self-rising)

4 tablespoons sugar

2 tablespoons baking cocoa

1 egg

3 tablespoons milk

3 tablespoons oil

3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)

Some nuts (optional)

Small splash of vanilla

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla, and mix again. Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes on high. The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed! Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired. EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to share!)

I wanted to share with you the most dangerous cake recipe in the world. It is dangerous because we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!

A doe and a groundhog

Dave sent me these two trail cam pix the other day and wanted to share them with you. He said that, first off, he didn't know ground hogs could climb a tree. In the next picture the doe clearly is interested in something up there. (The ground hog could still be in that tree in our great wild outdoors)! Many say that deer don't normally look up, but after hunting from a tree stand for 30 years, he could tell you from experience that they most certainly do. Kinda' neat he thought.

Detour - National Street

This is what was out our front door this morning and I had fun getting out of my driveway to get to my scheduled Doctor's appointment. Actually, the block is closed off for now and I now have to park in the backyard. Good thing there is a small alley behind the houses to be able to pulled into the backyard through the gates. With older homes here in Vicksburg you sometimes have an alley way behind your home. The big back hole shakes the house like crazy. The City is replacing an estimated 100-year-old clay pipes and will cost the city about $44,000.00. A plastic pipe will replace the aging clay infrastructure, which is buried as deep as 18 feet in some places and had a house built over it along Drummond Street (above my street) years ago. The new pipe will be installed 6 to 8 feet deep between the sidewalk. Clay storm drainage pipes are commonly found in Vicksburg and ruptures are frequent. The drain pipe being replace on National (my street) and Drummond had a rupture about six months ago. Vicksburg has an older infrastructure, and the City has to do their best to maintain it.

Rex's Dad took me by the Duck Pond to show me the millet that was planted for the ducks!

Swamp Scenery

On the way home from visiting with Rex and his family, I stopped along side the highway and took these pictures of a swamp. I love the swamp....it has a certain eeriness about it that I like. Tomorrow I will post pix of my adventures at the famous Christmas Place Deer Hunting Club. It was very relaxing and I had a good time visiting with everyone. It was a very sweetthing!
