Historical Gift Shop

Yesterday, Bob and I took off to town to go by Vicksburg's Old Court House Museum to check out their gift shop.  I grab my camera to take along with me because it is such a beautiful and historical building and there is always a picture to be taken.  Above is one of twenty ornate 30 foot ionic columns that flank this historical building.

The entrance to the building with the American and Confederate flags flying in the breeze.

This cat is a "new" resident of the Old Court House.  Her name is Maggie and was adopted from the Vicksburg-Warren Humane Society.  This is undoubtly the fattest cat I have ever seen and was very friendly.

We left with two special gifts for our bestest and deer friend, Rex, over at Deer Camp Blog!  We are looking forward to our next visit in June with Denise, his family and friends at the famous Christmas Place Plantation and Hunting Club.

A New Family Member

We have a new family member as of yesterday afternoon.  Her name is Allie and she's my next door neighbors cat.  She is moving soon and cannot take Allie with her.  Allie has been behind our sofa for most of yesterday evening and finally came out to peek at us.  I was able to get this picture of her this morning near my end table.  She should warm up to us in a few days, we hope.  Katie, our peek-a-poo, is staying away from her for now.  Katie is 11 years old and Allie is 3.

My Very First...

Today, I'm having my very first and maybe last garage sale and we are having a thunderstorm right now!  Hopefully, it will be out of here by 7:00 and have it all set up by 8:00.  Keep your fingers crossed for me!  Later!

PS:  My garage sale was a success and the weather turned out really nice, cool and breezy, but it will take me a day to recover.  I got up around 4:00 a.m. and my day went till 11:30 p.m.  I decided to go on and go to my end-of-the-year sorority pool party that started at 7:00 p.m. and it was very relaxing.  Many thanks to my husband, Bob and grandson, Carl, for all their help.

Picture of Yazoo City Tornado

This is an unbelievable/incredible shot of the tornado that hit Yazoo City, Mississippi on Saturday, April 24, 2010 sent to me by a friend. I would have been too scared to snap the picture considering the closeness of
the tornado.  Thought I would share the shot with you.

Happy First Birthday Eilley!

My step great granddaughter is all smiles being way up high in a tree. Bob and I look forward to seeing her later on this year for the very first time. Today happens to be her very first birthday! Happy Birthday Eilley!

Dave's Playful Deer

Received an email from Dave of some more pictures from his last cam batch. He said, going through three or four hundred pictures looking for ones with something a bit different, interesting, or with character becomes an exercise in redundancy since most of the pictures are very much the same, and many are just half a deer, blurred, caused by birds, etc. I thought these were cute though. Hope you enjoy them.. Dave

A Man's Home.....

Here is a story and pictorial of a couple who purchased an old church in Kyloe, Northumberland. They invested a lot of money on the interior but the exterior remained almost completely intact.   If they had not purchased the old church who knows what would have happened to it, as it was in very bad shape. The couple however adapted very well to the interior while leaving the outside with the minimum appearance of a house.

A man’s home IS his Castle. And this comes pretty close.

More Texas Bluebonnets

My friend, Addie, who lives in Texas sent me some more pretty pictures of Bluebonnets which is also the Texas state flower.  If you are ever in the area, the best place to see these beautiful flowers are around the Fredericksburg area near Loop 337 in New Braunfels from River Road to I-35; Highway 306 from New Braunfels to Purgatory Road almost to Canyon Lake and Highway 290 between Burton and Hempstead.

A Lonely Paulinchen

My daughter sent me these cute pictues of a piglet that was abandon by it's mother in Germany and how a man and dog saved it's life.  Story below.

A giant farm dog and a tiny piglet cuddle up as if they were family after the baby runt was dismissed by its own mother. Surrogate mum Katjinga, an eight-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback, took on motherly duties for grunter Paulinchen - a tiny pot-bellied pig - and seems to be taking the adoption in her stride. Lonely Paulinchen was luckily discovered moments from death and placed in the care of the dog who gladly accepted it as one of her own. Thankfully for the two-week old mini porker, Katjinga fell in love with him at first sight and saved his bacon.

And the unlikely relationship has made the wrinkly piggy a genuine sausage dog. In these adorable images Paulinchen can even be seen trying to suckle from his gigantic new mum.  The two animals live together on a huge 20-acre farm in Hoerstel , Germany, where Katjinga's owners Roland Adam, 54, and his wife Edit, 44, a bank worker, keep a pair of breeding Vietnamese pigs.

Nose place like home: The baby piglet nuzzles up to its new mum.

Property developer Roland found the weak and struggling piglet after he was abandoned by the rest of his family one evening after he was born.  He said: "The pigs run wild on our land and the sow had given birth to a litter of five in our forest.

"I felt sure some local foxes would have taken the little pig that very night so I took it into my house and gave him to Katjinga.. "She had just finished with a litter of her own, who are now 10 months, so I thought there was a chance she might take on the duties of looking after him. "Katjinga is the best mother you can imagine. She immediately fell in love with the piggy. Straight away she started to clean it like it was one of her own puppies.  "Days later she started lactating again and giving milk for the piggy. She obviously regards it now as her own baby."

Mum of the year? Quite possibly.

Old Court House Scenes

Picture I took of the Irises near the handicap ramp to the Old Court House Museum.

Yesterday, Bob wanted to go by the Old Court House Museum to check and see if his copper trees were selling.  He makes them as a hobby and not only does he have them at the museum but also placed in different locations around town and also sells them on eBay.  While he was inside, I walked around the grounds and took some pictures.  It's an old historical museum that was standing during the Civil War/Seige of Vicksburg in 1863.  If you are ever in Vicksburg, it is a must see!  The museum is standing on a whole city block.  Here are a few pictures that I took that you may enjoy looking at.

Bob heading up the ramp to the Old Court House Museum.

There are four of these round buildings at each corner of the lot.  On the front lawn of the Old Court House they are used for restrooms for the public.  Above is the ladies restroom.

Above is the mens restroom and in the background to the left is the Vicksburg City Jail.

Worn steps that have been patched at the front portico.

A beautiful water fountain in memory of Eloise Gaugh Freeman (1917-2005).

Come To The Garden

Original iron shutters on all the windows.

On the backside of the Old Court House is a new cage that has been recently built for an injured Eagle.  More than enough funds were raised to care for it and will be released back into the wild when it's tail feathers have grown back.

Creative Outdoors Productions

Yesterday, after I had posted about hondafast2004's nature video, I found out later that he also has a new blog called, Creative Outdoors Productions.  I checked it out and it is very nice with links, videos and great pictures of our great wild outdoors.  Hondafast2004, who lives in Logansport, Indiana, enjoys photography, making videos and of course loves country music!  I also mentioned and encouraged him to join our Outdoor Bloggers Summit and was excited to see that he added our banner to his blog.  Go over and welcome him and give him team support as hunters in our great outdoors!  Charming, Just Charming!

Coyote Yes, Turkey No

We got to the camp at 12:45 and while walking in at 100 yards in front of us, a coyote came out of the woods and ran from us.  Did not like to see that, but went on in to try to make the best of our turkey hunt.  I just stayed in one spot while Brad walked the circunference of the field and nothing gobbled for both of us.  We signed out at 3:00 and came back to Vicksburg.  The woods were filled with new growth and some real pretty wildflowers.  Coming home stopped to take pictures of my favorite, cows!  We have more bad weather predicted for this weekend and I think turkey hunting will be a washout!  This is it for me, until next year.
