In The Park

Year 30 of the Mississippi Picnic was held last Sunday in New York City's Central Park. Representing Vicksburg was Mary Louise Nosser. With her are event founder Rachael McPherson of Monticello, Gov. Haley Barbour and Ellis Nassour, playwright and author, who grew up in Vicksburg. The event is held annually to bring former Mississippians together in New York and to promote the state for business and tourism.
I'm proud to say that I have known both Mary Louise from working at the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers together and Ellis from high school. We have all stayed in touch all these years. Mary Louise and Ellis are also related. I did not realized that this event had taken place until I read it in Wednesday's paper. Looks like everyone really had a great time and promoted our great state of Mississippi!

Fried catfish, hushpuppies and sweet tea, oh my!

Hey, I read about the Mississippi Picnic in the news last weekend. I find current info using Google Reader and getting an RSS feed from a Google News search on Mississippi or Vicksburg or whatever. Yahoo News puts a Local Headlines as a tab I check when I read my email. Things like that pop up from all over, not just the local news paper. Lots of local news from Jackson newspapers and TV news, especially WLBT. I think I have twitter with most of their news production staff. WLBT newsfeeds are comprehensive.

Its very nice to see Ellis in this picture. I have met him several times. I made friends with his mother Mamie and stopped in to visit her many times when she was in the nursing home down the hall from Mr. Piazza over at Shady Lawn several years back. Ellis is a very interseting person to talk to .

I have made several New York City contacts on Twitter, but I did not here any of them mention the picnic. Maybe I can find Ellis on twitter??

There was a NASCAR event downtown NY City about a week ago, when a NASCAR pit crew demonstrated a racing pitstop on one of those busy down town Manhattan streets. It was a big attention getter.

Thank you for posting all this.
