A Dixie Lady Deer Hunter

Article by Fred Messina, editor of "On Target Outdoors" from The Vicksburg Evening Post on Friday, January 19, 1990. Photo by Bob Phillips.

Bob Phillips came up the other day with a photo of his wife Marian and a deer she got on Brown's Point New Years Eve. The deer was an 8-point with 16 inches of inside spread that weighed in at 190 pounds. A nice trophy in anyone's book. However, the tale Bob told is that this was Marian's fourth deer this year and he claimed that he would have done better than he did if he had not spent so much time hauling Marian's deer out of the woods. Come off it, Bob. We all know who the hunter was.

Couple of Interesting Pictures

Theresa also sent me this cam picture taken from the J. P. Coleman State Park here in MS where a panther/couger has been attacking deer at the park. She said that they have been close a couple of times to shooting it.

Theresa, "t" on MySpace, who lives in northeast Mississippi, sent me this picture of her oldest son, Franz, who went geese hunting in Canada recently. She said that he goes every year to enjoy the sport in the great outdoors. My Congrats to Franz!

You do have some good pictures.

That cougar looks like a big one. I wouldn't want to walk into its territory without a gun.

Congrats to Franz - he has a good supply of goose for the freezer.

Thanks Rex...did not know that! You learn something new everyday. Perhaps they may be trying to tranquilize it to maybe relocate the animal...don't really know.
