A Dixie Lady Deer Hunter

Article by Fred Messina, editor of "On Target Outdoors" from The Vicksburg Evening Post on Friday, January 19, 1990. Photo by Bob Phillips.

Bob Phillips came up the other day with a photo of his wife Marian and a deer she got on Brown's Point New Years Eve. The deer was an 8-point with 16 inches of inside spread that weighed in at 190 pounds. A nice trophy in anyone's book. However, the tale Bob told is that this was Marian's fourth deer this year and he claimed that he would have done better than he did if he had not spent so much time hauling Marian's deer out of the woods. Come off it, Bob. We all know who the hunter was.

Dave's Off To The Mountains Again...

Dave left yesterday morning for the western slopes of the Colorado Rockies with COFA (Christian Outdoor Fellowship of America) for whom he is the editor of the bi-monthly magazine, and in-camp firearms safety coordinator. His flight left at 7:00 a.m., and he said that he's glad he is an early riser. They will again be camping in the Uncompahgre National Wilderness area (Area #65) about 9,600 feet and hunting between 10,000 and 12,000 feet.

He sends out prayer request for safe travel and safety in camp and hunting, and in his case from the mountain lions since they love to follow him around. They pick up on his limp and key right in on him every year.
Wishing Dave a good hunt and said he will be returning late on the 22nd. Should have some pictures to show you on his return.

Thanks for coming by landbroker and glad you liked the come back because Dave will have some more pics to share. I hope he gets to harvest something..if not..that's OK. Just being outdoors is rewarding enough. :)

He will have good weather for the first part of the trip. It's gorgeous up there right now! There is some snow above the timberline however. Good luck and good hunting to him.
