A Dixie Lady Deer Hunter

Article by Fred Messina, editor of "On Target Outdoors" from The Vicksburg Evening Post on Friday, January 19, 1990. Photo by Bob Phillips.

Bob Phillips came up the other day with a photo of his wife Marian and a deer she got on Brown's Point New Years Eve. The deer was an 8-point with 16 inches of inside spread that weighed in at 190 pounds. A nice trophy in anyone's book. However, the tale Bob told is that this was Marian's fourth deer this year and he claimed that he would have done better than he did if he had not spent so much time hauling Marian's deer out of the woods. Come off it, Bob. We all know who the hunter was.

Ole Man River Scenes

Yesterday we drove by the overlook and had just missed the Brimstone towboat with its empty load getting ready to make the big turn in the bend of the MS River.

It's nice to see the sandbars again on the Louisiana side after we have just come through the worst flood here since the 1927 flood.

Bob and I with the double bridges in the background.

Zoomed in to catch a train crossing the Mighty Mississippi.  Riverwalk Casino in background.

The temps were in the low 90's yesterday with a nice breeze blowing.  It's also one of our favorite places to go and sit, be lazy, reflect and watch ole man river roll on by with it's towboats pushing a load of goods to and from their destinations.

Very nice Marian! Taking time to "watch ole man river roll on by". I like imaging the water swirling and moving.

Thanks CDGardens...yes, it is swirling and moving pretty fast. When we had the flood back in May you could see a lot of debris floating in the river and I also saw a buoy floating downstream. It can be pretty treacherous. You have to really respect the Mighty Mississippi! :)
