Big Pig Wallow

Jason Moore of Neshoba County, MS, posted this picture yesterday of this big pig wallow on his place.  Looks like he needs to get busy and kill some hogs before they tear up his land in our wild Mississippi outdoors!

Two Men Smuggling Live Deer From LA to MS

75-year-old Edward L. Donaldson, Jr., and 42-year-old John Jared Oertling of LA were charged with conspiracy to violate the LACEY ACT for importing live white-tailed deer into MS.

According to the LACEY ACT, any person who imports, exports, transports, sells, receives, acquires or purchases wildlife that was taken, possessed, transported or sold in violation of any said wildlife is prohibited.

They both manage a 1,032-acre high fenced enclosure in Forrest County, called Turkey Trot Ranch and conspired to smuggle the live deer into MS for the purpose of breeding and killing white-tail buck deer.

They learned in 2012 that the live white-tailed deer purchased and imported from PA to Turkey Trot Ranch came from a herd of captive white-tailed deer in PA that tested positive for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD).  CWD is a transmittable and a great threat to deer/elk population in North America, which kills off infected animals.

Public Enemy Number One!

Jarratt Hahn, a law enforcement officer, has been having a great year trying to trap and kill these nasty hogs between his land and his neighbors.  Jarratt lives in White Sand, Mississippi and caught over 150. Here are a few photos taken this year and commented that it still doesn't look like he put a dent in the population.

Hogs are all over Mississippi and they tear up gardens, food plots, and crops.  They are very hearty aminals and very resilient.  They multiply like mosquitoes.

Jim Walker with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks describes them as "public enemy number one."

Congrats to Jarratt in trying to eradicate these annoying hogs in our great wild Mississippi outdoors.

Tomato Place Luncheon

Johnette and I had an enjoyable BLT with a guacamole sandwich, sweet tea and homemade bread pudding for dessert at The Tomato Place for lunch.  It's a beautiful breezy clear blue sunny day. Tomorrow will be a different story with rain forecast from the tropical storm, IRMA.

An elderly couple came in and I overheard the waitress asked where they were from and they said Florida.  They had come this far to get away and live in the Tampa Bay area.  They were leaving Wednesday to try to get back home. We wished them safe travels on their way back from the worst weather disaster to ever hit our homeland.

Watermelons for sale.

Delicious varieties of smoothies.

Love this bike with all bright neon lights hanging on the wall.

Beautiful picture on the wall of Blessed Mother.

Flowers that hummingbirds like.

Gators too!

A very tall bottle tree!

 The Boiled Peanuts Shack!

Outer feeder bands coming in from the tropical storm, IRMA while leaving The Tomato Place.

A Queenly Visit Today In My Hometown

The American Queen moored near the trees at the waterfront from early this morning until she left around 1:30.  She will be back next Wednesday, September 13th for a full day to tour our historic civil war town of Vicksburg, MS.

All Aboard!!  American Queen in all her glory getting ready to depart with her passengers.

Taken near the edge of Yazoo Diversion Canal before she left on a beautiful cool and nice clear day.
