A Dixie Lady Deer Hunter

Article by Fred Messina, editor of "On Target Outdoors" from The Vicksburg Evening Post on Friday, January 19, 1990. Photo by Bob Phillips.

Bob Phillips came up the other day with a photo of his wife Marian and a deer she got on Brown's Point New Years Eve. The deer was an 8-point with 16 inches of inside spread that weighed in at 190 pounds. A nice trophy in anyone's book. However, the tale Bob told is that this was Marian's fourth deer this year and he claimed that he would have done better than he did if he had not spent so much time hauling Marian's deer out of the woods. Come off it, Bob. We all know who the hunter was.

A Queenly Visit Today In My Hometown

The American Queen moored near the trees at the waterfront from early this morning until she left around 1:30.  She will be back next Wednesday, September 13th for a full day to tour our historic civil war town of Vicksburg, MS.

A tugboat passing by pushing empty containers to the Port of Vicksburg.

All Aboard!!  American Queen in all her glory getting ready to depart with her passengers.

Taken near the edge of Yazoo Diversion Canal before she left on a beautiful cool and nice clear day.

The American Queen' s staff putting chairs away on their buses that had accommodated passengers.

The American Queen turning around in the Yazoo Diversion Canal earlier this afternoon heading north to a destination of Helena, Arkansas on the Mississippi River with her passengers.   The Captain can either turn around in the canal, go to the Port of Vicksburg or backs out.
