An Early Mother's Day Celebration With Family @ Lake

Yesterday morning my Granddaughter Victoria and hubby Jamie and Great Grandson Ian had me over for an early Mother’s Day breakfast celebration at their lake in the country.

We all ate on a floating dock with table and chairs.  How cool is this!

Then (2019) & Now (2020)

My Facebook friend, Mike Persichini who takes great pictures of deer and whatever else he sees in the woods, took these pictures last year with her triplets, and this year the doe is pregnant again.  

He says he knows what a doe looks like carrying triplets in 2019!

This is the same doe this year and pregnant again.  Could she be carrying triplets?  We will have to wait and see!

A Fine Bream Catch!

Michael Martin of Saltillo, Mississippi's pretty little daughter caught this nice bream recently.  A great way to quarantine during a pandemic for sure.  That is a skillet full and I bet she had fun catching it as well.  My congratulations and so proud of her our great wild Mississippi outdoors! 

A Third Strike On Piers This Month

A northbound towboat pushing a 28-barge tow struck three piers on the old U.S. 80 bridge and three on the Interstate 20 bridge about 12:34 p.m. Monday, superintendent Herman Smith said.

He said the Motor Vessel Captain Buck Lay operated by American Commercial Barge Lines of Jeffersonville, Indiana, was pushing a tow of 15 full and 13 empty barges that was seven barges long with four across.

Smith said the tow had passed the I-20 bridge when the current caught it and pushed it into the old U.S. 80 bridge.  The strike closed the bridge to rail traffic.

A video of the strike shows the tow clearing the I-20 bridge and passing under the old U.S. 80 bridge when the current caught it.  As the fifth barge passes under the bridge, the current begins pushing the two toward the Mississippi shore.  

The tow initially struck pier 4 of the U.S. 80 bridge then slid sideways, striking piers 2 and 3 simultaneously and breaking apart.  The barges drifted south, striking piers W-1, E-1, and E-2 on the I-20 bridge.  None of the barges sank, Smith said.

Monday's barge strike is the third time one or both of the river bridges have been struck in April.

April 14, the light mast of the Motor Vessel Crimson Duke pushing a 24-barge two struck the underside of the I-20 bridge.  The incident forced Louisiana State Police to close the westbound land of the bridge until it was inspected by engineers.

April 11, the Motor Vessel Blake Benton, operated by Marquette Transportation of Paducah, Kentucky pushing a southbound 25-barge tow struck pier 4 on the old Highway 80 bridge.

Refreshing Saturday

My daughter, Kathy, and I went to see her in-laws Saturday afternoon in Richmond, Louisiana and we have a wonderful time visiting and enjoying a meal that they prepared for us.  

They live next to a cornfield and it is also a cemetery as well mid-way in the field.

Afterward, we made our way to the Mississippi Welcome Center in my historical hometown of Vicksburg to take some more pictures.  

I love this picture I took of Kathy looking out towards the MS River and the bridges.  She misses home after living in Wisconsin for almost two years and now Magee, MS.  

She wanted to take a picture of me as well.  We had a wonderful visit and such a pretty day to get out and enjoy family and nature.
