Snow/Ice For MS

Looks like we are going to be in for it with snow and ice predicted for today, tonight and early Monday morning.  I remembered a few years ago when we had no electricity for 5 days and had to go and spend the 4th day in a motel.  My liquid detergent was frozen at the sink and that did it!  If it was not for our hunting clothes and fireplace we could not have stayed as long as we did.  The wires had pulled away from the house even though some houses had power around us.  Finally, a big truck came to our home and found out later the crew was from Alabama to get us hooked back up.  We also have a 200 year old oak tree over our home leaning from next door and pine trees.  Around midnight that night while trying to sleep and listening to all the tree limbs cracking and breaking, WHAM, it hit our house!  I was in the kitchen before I knew it!  It hit the eaves of the house but felt like it was going to come though the windows.  Another time we had a storm with high winds and a limb went right through our windshield of our car while parked in the driveway and logged into the driver's seat.  Another time we had a limb to fall on the roof of our suburban and bent it in.  We have lived here since '91 and been lucky so far that the big tree next door has not fallen on our house.  I love the trees but when we have weather like this, it can get pretty nerve racking.  Hopefully, this will all blow over and the electricity will not go out and the pipes want freeze. You do have to be prepared for whatever happens!  I don't think I could live up north during the winter months but know they have adapted to it and have the snow plows.  Here in the deep south it does not happen that often and when it does you have cancellations of churches, schools. etc., and you just need stay home and stay off the roads.

Looks like we will have heavy mix/ice tonight - we still have power at 6:00 pm.  Let's see how long that last!

We were fortunate that our power did not go out overnight but did flicker once this morning.  A lot of ice on bridges and schools were closed.  Did not get any snow here in Vicksburg but most of northern half of MS did.  I'm sure there will be another round to come.  Not over with yet!  Sill got the rest of January, February and has snowed here on the first day of spring in March before.  We just have to wait and see!

Oh, wow. I heard that the Southeast was in for big snow. Good luck to you. Ice storm survival is pretty intense.
