Stories of my hunting experiences with family, friends or whatever else I want to blog about.

A Dixie Lady Deer Hunter

Article by Fred Messina, editor of "On Target Outdoors" from The Vicksburg Evening Post on Friday, January 19, 1990. Photo by Bob Phillips.

Bob Phillips came up the other day with a photo of his wife Marian and a deer she got on Brown's Point New Years Eve. The deer was an 8-point with 16 inches of inside spread that weighed in at 190 pounds. A nice trophy in anyone's book. However, the tale Bob told is that this was Marian's fourth deer this year and he claimed that he would have done better than he did if he had not spent so much time hauling Marian's deer out of the woods. Come off it, Bob. We all know who the hunter was.

Vicksburg Youth On The Hunt

Nine-year-old Jacob Stewart took down this 8-point, 180-pound buck in northern Warren County on December 27.  The buck had an 18-inch spread and 21-inch main beams.  Jacob is the son of Bobby and Tammie Stewart of Vicksburg.

Laura Reagan Logue, 10, shot this 8-point, 25-pound buck while hunting with her father in northern Warren County.  The deer had a 17-1/2 inch spread.  Laura is the daughter of Trey Logue and Tracey Boyd.

Christian Hampton, 16, took down this 8-point, 190-pound buck while hunting with her father, Ed Hampton, rear, on private land in Warren County on January 2.  Christian is the daughter of Ed Hampton and Lori Hasty.

Garren Temple shot his first deer on December 9.  The 8-pointer had a 14-inch spread, 19-inch beams and weighted 175 pounds.  Garren is the son of Sam and Kristen Temple of Vicksburg.

Tristan Wilbanks' first buck, this 4-point, 165-pounder, was taken in Claiborne County.  He made the 120-yard shot while hunting with his grandfather, Rayford Wilbanks.  Tristan, 7, is the son of Jason and Melisa Wilbanks of Vicksburg.  My congrats to all our young hunters in our great wild outdoors!
