A Dixie Lady Deer Hunter

Article by Fred Messina, editor of "On Target Outdoors" from The Vicksburg Evening Post on Friday, January 19, 1990. Photo by Bob Phillips.

Bob Phillips came up the other day with a photo of his wife Marian and a deer she got on Brown's Point New Years Eve. The deer was an 8-point with 16 inches of inside spread that weighed in at 190 pounds. A nice trophy in anyone's book. However, the tale Bob told is that this was Marian's fourth deer this year and he claimed that he would have done better than he did if he had not spent so much time hauling Marian's deer out of the woods. Come off it, Bob. We all know who the hunter was.

Thankful Wishes and Hunting Trip!

My daughter, Kathy, surprised me with a beautiful birthday cake and a pretty pair of earrings.  It was a fun filled day opening birthday cards from family/friends, phone calls, flowers/balloon and lots of wishes from my Facebook and Blogger friends.  My daughter, Debra, also made us a home made meal to enjoy!  Later, Bob took me out to eat at our favorite Mexican Restaurant, El Sombrero.   I was surprised when three waiters showed up at our table and put a Mexican hat on my head and started clapping and singing Happy Birthday to me in Spanish!  The whole day was very memorable and I appreciate all of you who took the time to come by and congratulate me on my 70th.  My sincere thanks!

Today, we have been invited by our friend, Rex (Deer Camp Blog), to come deer/hog hunt at his famous Christmas Place Plantation and Hunting Club, for the last weekend of primitive weapons.  We are looking forward to our get-a-way and to visit with him and his family/friends.  It's shaping up to be a beautiful sunny weekend and hopefully we will bring back a deer plus a hog!
