A Dixie Lady Deer Hunter

Article by Fred Messina, editor of "On Target Outdoors" from The Vicksburg Evening Post on Friday, January 19, 1990. Photo by Bob Phillips.

Bob Phillips came up the other day with a photo of his wife Marian and a deer she got on Brown's Point New Years Eve. The deer was an 8-point with 16 inches of inside spread that weighed in at 190 pounds. A nice trophy in anyone's book. However, the tale Bob told is that this was Marian's fourth deer this year and he claimed that he would have done better than he did if he had not spent so much time hauling Marian's deer out of the woods. Come off it, Bob. We all know who the hunter was.

Vicksburg On The Hunt

Ashley Henry

Shirley Henry

Shirley Henry and her granddaughter Ashley Henry each killed an 8-point buck in northern Warren County this season.  Shirley Henry's deer had an 18-inch main beam with a 15-1/2-inch spread and bases of 4 inches, and weighed 155 pounds.  Ashley Henry's first buck, taken while hunting with her father Michael Henry, had beams of 18 and 18-1/4-inches, a spread of 15 inches, and weighed 162 pounds.  Congrats on your first buck Ashley!

Keyshawn Younger, 13, bagged this 8-point buck near Port Gibson.  It weighed 315 pounds and had a 19-1/2 inch spread.  Keyshawn is the son of Eric and Trish Younger.  My congrats to all our hunters in the great wild outdoors!
