Just Piddlin'

Lloyd Murrah heads to his car downtown on Washington Street this past Wednesday with his wife, Edna, as they and four other Ford Model A owners toured the area in their autos built between 1928 and 1931. The five are members of the Alabama Ramblin’ A’s. Murrah is from Iuka, and the others are from Birmingham, Ala. They were in Jackson and Canton on Tuesday and planned to visit Port Gibson the next day. “We’re just piddlin’ around,” Murrah said.

I just love these old cars. I have driven in an old Model T Ford while visiting family in Cape Girardeau, MO, years ago. My cousin, Bill, who lives in Memphis, Tennessee has it now and affectionately calls it, Leaping Lizzie. Last year when the prices of gasoline was so high he would leave his SUV at home and drive old Lizzie to work. I just love the sound of the horn. Charming, Just Charming!

Old cars are pretty cool, they don't make them the way they used to.

No they don't Rick. So glad that my mother's side of the family kept it in great condition. Maybe one day I can visit Bill in Memphis and he can take me for a ride in it again. The last time I rode in it...I was so embarassed being a teenager at the time and riding through Chaffee, MO, with my Uncle Clyde at the wheel blowing the horn over and over again. If only I could go back in time to that moment.
