Riverfront Park Is Opened

Yesterday, as we drove by the overlook, a barge in tow was going down the MS River.  The traffic there has increased a lot since all the publicity of the MS River flooding.

The Joe Bobzien traveling pretty fast down the river with the help of the fast moving current!

Cars and people were everywhere at the overlook.  If they could not find a spot to park they would circle back around again to get a view of the Mighty Mississippi! You can also climb the steps on the hill to the left and get a wider view of the river.

After closing the Vicksburg Riverfront Park because of four wild boars being sited, people were flocking back to get an up close and personal view of the River. Yesterday, a hog was sited 3 blocks from our house at the City Park ball field.  It's no telling where they are by now.  As you can see, the back end of Diamond Jack's Casino is slowing going underwater.

Washington Street bridge is out and a new one is being constructed.

Heading down the steep hill towards Diamond Jack's since it is a detour with the main Washington Street bridge being out.  In the far distance to the right you can see a train passing by and heading through a new tunnel which has been erected. Soon dirt will be placed on top of it and will be part of the construction of our new bridge.

Passing by another news truck, Channel 12, WJTV-TV.  They are all over town reporting about the Great Flood of 2011, here in Vicksburg.  A friend of mine on Facebook had this to say about what is happening here reporting the flooding. "Now the reporters are wearing waders and walking out into the flood water. Trucks all over town with the satellite extended dish antennas.  Going in to areas the police say to stay out of.  They are at the welcome center, at the old depot, at the overlook, at the flooded roadways, at the flood wall, parking where no one else can park".

A lot of people were out site seeing the river as we were heading back up the hill towards home.
