Drove by the Navy Circle this afternoon and took a few pictures at the site of Battery Benton, a Union siege position consisting of two 42-pounder rifled cannon, named after the Union gunboat "Benton" of Admiral Porter's river fleet. The battery dueled with Confederate positions located at South Fort, and sustained casualties when a Confederate shell exploded within its fortifications.

Looks like a huge thunderhead building up north of town.
Big wheels!
Looking inside the barrel.
Boom!
View of the bridges (I-20 and old Hwy 80) at Vicksburg, MS, Battery Benton site.
Leaving with an ominous cloud due north.
