A Dixie Lady Deer Hunter

Article by Fred Messina, editor of "On Target Outdoors" from The Vicksburg Evening Post on Friday, January 19, 1990. Photo by Bob Phillips.

Bob Phillips came up the other day with a photo of his wife Marian and a deer she got on Brown's Point New Years Eve. The deer was an 8-point with 16 inches of inside spread that weighed in at 190 pounds. A nice trophy in anyone's book. However, the tale Bob told is that this was Marian's fourth deer this year and he claimed that he would have done better than he did if he had not spent so much time hauling Marian's deer out of the woods. Come off it, Bob. We all know who the hunter was.

A Fun Last Weekend Hunt

Bob and I got to the famous Christmas Place Plantation and Hunting Club around 3:30 Friday afternoon and got all our things put away in our (Paul's) room and sat down to visit.  Around 5:15 we looked towards the feeder and several deer had appeared. Soon a nice buck showed up to enjoy the feast!

We watched and took pictures for about 15 minutes and then the buck took off.  It was so nice that Rex invited us to come back up for the last weekend of deer season.  We had a wonderful time seeing and visiting with his Dad, his friend Dorothy, Trent, Bobby, Mark, Burney, Austin, Davin and Dean at the camp.  You can check out Bob's blog, Two Dogs Tall, for more pictures of the hunt.

He's gone!
