Run Thru History

This morning at 8:30 we had our 29th Run Thru History through our Vicksburg National Military Park. The weather was perfect with partly cloudy skies and cool temps to greet the 850 runners and walkers for the 10 kilometer run and 5K walk. There was also a Blue/Gray 1-miler walk. I have walked the 5K several times and have really enjoyed the event. The end of the line is in the parking lot at the Battlefield Inn where they hand out fruit, hot dogs and drinks free (and beer). There is also a post race entertainment by our local band The Chill as well as an awards ceremony. Signature trophies featuring a mini cannon are given out to the winners. It's so much fun to see the community come together for such an enjoyable event. Of course, recovering from knee surgery, I could not participate this year. Hopefully, next year!

I had a sunburned member of The Chill at my house for five hours this evening!! My brother-in-law Carl, who plays lead guitar for the band. And he had on his official Run Thru History tee shirt. He said there was a great turn-out today. I have never participated, though, and probably never will. Too early in the day!!!!
