A Dixie Lady Deer Hunter

Article by Fred Messina, editor of "On Target Outdoors" from The Vicksburg Evening Post on Friday, January 19, 1990. Photo by Bob Phillips.

Bob Phillips came up the other day with a photo of his wife Marian and a deer she got on Brown's Point New Years Eve. The deer was an 8-point with 16 inches of inside spread that weighed in at 190 pounds. A nice trophy in anyone's book. However, the tale Bob told is that this was Marian's fourth deer this year and he claimed that he would have done better than he did if he had not spent so much time hauling Marian's deer out of the woods. Come off it, Bob. We all know who the hunter was.

A Barber's Lucky Buck

Bill Downey

Sharing the joy (three generations) grandson, Jacob, with Grandpa Bill and his son, Todd.

Above are two photos of Bill Downey's nice 8 point buck taken at his deer camp, Yucatan, on December 28, 2011.  The camp is located across the MS River from Grand Gulf Nuclear Power Plant, in Louisiana. Bill owns a barber shop called, Downey's Barber & Style Shop on Clay Street, Vicksburg.  My husband, Bob, gets his hair cut there.  Bill, is an avid deer hunter and proudly shows off several deer mounts at his place of business.  His son, Todd, is also a barber there and proud of his Dad harvesting this nice buck as well as his grandson, Jacob.  Here are the deer stats...

8 Point Buck
5-1/2 Bases
25-1/2 Main beams
19 Inches wide
Weight - 200 lbs.
G2s - 12 inches
