A Dixie Lady Deer Hunter

Article by Fred Messina, editor of "On Target Outdoors" from The Vicksburg Evening Post on Friday, January 19, 1990. Photo by Bob Phillips.

Bob Phillips came up the other day with a photo of his wife Marian and a deer she got on Brown's Point New Years Eve. The deer was an 8-point with 16 inches of inside spread that weighed in at 190 pounds. A nice trophy in anyone's book. However, the tale Bob told is that this was Marian's fourth deer this year and he claimed that he would have done better than he did if he had not spent so much time hauling Marian's deer out of the woods. Come off it, Bob. We all know who the hunter was.

What is it???

Buddy Lofton over at Facebook posted this picture and said that he may have to take down his game cam here in Vicksburg. Someone commented that maybe he needs to become a ghost buster and it looks like an "orb" to her. Others thought it may be a bug, or fairy spirits, or fairy globes, and that they are beginning to appear in more peoples photos lately. It is pure energy, but who knows of what - (or who?). Another thought - ghost of a deer killed long ago! Could it possibly be THUNDERHOOF over at Rex's Deer Camp trying to scare everyone! What do you think it is?

I bet an owl. I had a picture like this almost to the T and the next picture was an owl on the ground in front of the camera killing a skunk. Because their eyes are such as the picture shows, my money is one swooping in...Jack

hhhmmmmmm....could very well be a spirit and this location could be a "portal", a sort of passageway that spirits use sometimes to come and go.

LOL, or, you know, just a bug!

Fire fly.

The length of the track suggests how long the fire fly was lit while it flew past. Its not in focus suggesting its very close to the lense of the camera.

Kind of late at night for fire flies. Usually right at or after dark.

Nothing else in the woods lights up at night.
