On The Wing
Hundreds of birds believed to be American white pelicans take flight along the Yazoo Diversion Canal Monday morning. Unlike the brown pelican, this bird does not dive for its food. Instead it feeds while swimming, and one of its delicacies is catfish. They winter at Eagle Lake, north of Vicksburg and along the Mississippi River, as far north as St. Louis, and in central California and along the Pacific coast of Guatemala and along the shores of the Gulf of Mexico. The birds are among the largest in North America with wingspans of up to 9 feet in our great outdoors. This is a sweetthing!
