Chris Mann of Amory, Mississippi, an outdoor writer for Our Tupelo on Facebook was scouting for deer recently along the Tombigbee River and found this pipe washed up in the sand. After cleaning it up, it has the French flag on one side and the British flag on the other. He was not sure what time period it is from, but think maybe the 16th century? It is made from clay and the bowl is oblong instead of perfectly round indicating hand made. The French flag appears to have been hand-drawn with a stick or something. It was a cool find! Any anthropologists or archaeologists with insight? #MississippiHistory
My congratulations to Chris on a great find in our historic and wonderful Missississippi outdoors!
