The American Queen returned Saturday for a full day of touring our historic civil war town of Vicksburg, MS. I took this picture from the main street, Washington Street which runs north/south onto Hwy. 61. The Old Depot Museum is located on Levee Street (truck route) which is now closed because a retaining wall is going up to keep the flood waters from the Riverfront Murals on the floodwall. She's moored in the Yazoo Diversion Canal off the Mighty Mississippi River. Some passengers decided to climb the hills of Vicksburg to shop downtown. Others took tour buses.
I walked behind The Old Depot Museum to take a picture of the American Queen. An Aqua Dam will be going up soon around the Depot because of the flooding. Not sure where all the riverboats will dock once that is installed. The American Queen will be returning on March 14th and so will America (March 13), Queen of Mississippi (March 27) and the American Duchess (March 16th). As of Sunday the river level was 48.31 feet and changed +0.40 feet with the flood stage at 43 feet.
